I'd order some, Mike, but I won't be home again until mid July. We are out of the yards in a week, no more weekends for me.

XD, Cabelas sells both Pietta and Uberti. I saw yours, and I'm a bit confused - it looked darn nice to me!

Posted

Oo I'm not complaning at all of my gun. I took a pretty good look at yours & the finish & grips were nice, makes me want one like that too. Dangit Mike!!

XD Cabela's won't tell you who make's their B/P Revolver's !! But i think they are made by Pietta w/ Cabela's name on them .

Cabelas DOES sell both Pietta and Uberti, I have one of each from there.

Neither one has the word "Cabelas" on it.

Is there any way to tell witch one you are buying before you order it? I was leaning torward a Uberti this time, though the model is undecided.

What do yall think? 1873, 1858, 1861, or 1862?

XD, the one Angel likes is the 1862 Police (fluted cylinder, round barrel) Uberti, which I got from the possibles shop.

The other one I brought out was the 1861 Navy, Pietta made. Both in .36 caliber. If you lean toward .44 then the 1860 Army is the way to go.

Looks like Possibles is out of the 62's, but this guy http://www.redbearhunting.com/shopping.asp?SubCategoryID=240 has them in 2 barrel lengths and is $20 cheaper.

'58 Remmy all the way.

I don't think it much matter if you get an Uberti or a Pietta. Both are great quality.

The Pietta has more visible proof marks on it, but I can't see them when shooting it!

Ubereti is gonna cost more

I'd get the '58 Remmy again and an extra cylinder.

Posted

Well, Governer, we all know of your preference for the Remington. Where's your secretary, is what I want to know.

Posted

I would not re-purchase the '73.

I believe it has a weak hammer spring. It is also a lot more difficult to properly clean. The handspring configuration is different on it. Very tiny parts involved.

Make Mark happy, get a Colt Army

Posted

Maybe I will make Mark happy on the one after this, I did like the police '62. But I think this time I want a removeable cylinder with a spare.

Has anyone seen the '58 with case hardened frame? How does it look?

Mike i had spoke with a Cabelas rep in live chat i specificly asked who made their B/P Revolver's i was infomed they do not give out their Vendor's name's. That the firearm's were Trademarked to Cabela's so i jusy assumed they had the Cabela's name on them . Sorry if i caused any confusion. BTW Dang It Mike!!!! looking at a 51 steel frame at Cabela's.Also Dang It Mark !!!! 62 Police.

Hey no problem, before I bought my '58 I spoke to a Cableas rep and all they would tell me is that it was Italian made. I have read on anothr message board where the Cabelas name is on the gun. So you certainly were not wrong.

I have not seen a '58 with a case hardened frame. Mine is blued? Just stay away from brass on that revolver as they were never made that way back in the day. The '58 was absolutely the revolver to have during the Civil War.

Now if your heart is set on the '73 go for it. I do not mean to scare you off. It is fun to shoot, but there are considerations. Thats all I wanted to point out. If you do get an extra cylinder it seems either the 73 or 58 are the way to go. The Colt's are just more difficult to pull cylinders on. Check Dixie Gunworks for a cylinder reloading stand. The one that comes with the 73 is a POS. I have them both and I only use the one from Dixie.

PS: I so love the police '62. But I think I am blowing the gun fund on a rifle for my daughter tomorrow.

Posted

Mike, before you go blowing the gun fund, what sort of rifle? I bought a 22 semi a while back because it was in very nice condition, with sling and scope. I'm in a position to offer you a deal on it...

Posted

Mark keep in mind my gun fund is slim.

I found a semi auto Stevens at a local pawn shop. less than 100 bucks.

It has a detachable magazine and a non wooden stock. I have no clue what the stock is, black plastic I am guessing. If I get it I will try to make the stock into

pink camo, since she likes pink.

Gonna go back and look tomorrow. I want to get a better look at the action and barrel. If they will allow me I want to stick a spend casing in it to dry fire the thing to see about how well the firing pin hits the casing.

she has asked me about coming to one of our shoots sometime. I thought it would be a nice "Dad" thing to do and come up with a rifle for her. She has never shot before.

I also found a stainless Marlin Model 60 for 135 bucks at another pawn shop.

Posted

Aww heck. I was gonna ask 135 for mine - I paid 165 for it. If she likes it, will take... 90? Has a nice scope and sling, wood stock, 2 10 rd mags and manual.

Posted

Sounds like a good deal. When you get back if you are still interested in moving it I will buy it. I love .22's, can't have enough of them.

I would take it now but don't see myself in Kingsport in the next month.

If by chance I get to go up there in the next couple of weeks on a delivery I will let you know. Maybe I could make arrangements to meet up with Sue to get it.

Thanks

Birthday gift, or just so she'll have something to shoot at the shoots? If it fits and she likes it, its' a deal. I'll charge off the difference to my good deeds/new shooter karma.

By the way, last night bought a couple of arsenal refinished tomato stakes.. Moisin Nagant M44's, I mean. 69 each, with the slings, cleaning gear, pouches and whatnot. Prvi P ammo was 4 bucks a box, so bought 20 boxes. Gonna give 'em away, I suspect.

I'm not in Kingsport, either - in Norfolk... Jersey next, yay me :tough:

Enough thread hijack, lets' get back to the burning questions of which pistol is next on XD's list, and who else has gotten smoke in their eyes...

Gunslinger, XD's '51 was a closeout at the possibles shop - pretty hard to beat for the money.

holy cow!! you guys..this BP stuff is addictive.

I have a colleague who went to the range with me today...well..he saw the pictures of everyone on the line making lots of smoke and when we went to the sports warehouse, he ended up buying a navy colt in .44 caliber.

He asked me to check it out, and I made him buy the steel frame:D...

he's so dang excited...he's already said that he wants to come to a shoot with us.

I think he's hooked...

Way to go Elliott!!

for the life of me I can't understand why everyone is not into BP, really.

I love that I do not need a reloading operation to be able to shoot them. Making ammo right there in the field is awesome!

I guess I could sit here and reload some cartridges, or I could go out and shoot while reloading some cylinders. I know what I would rather do!

Posted

I carried mine to a family gathering saterday & it was a hit. Everyone loved it. It was so much fun, though I didn't talk any of them into joining me with one. I guess 7 or 8 shot it wiht me.

BTW is there anything I can do to help with acuracy on it? At arround 20yrds it is about 3" high & to the left.
