Oh yeah. I think I now have 3 or 4 of them. Great stoves. I don't know if Sue will let me e-bay it, as I did not have a tourist before, but if I do I'm gonna owe Mars some more money.

TDR, I would say it is not a bad deal, but I dunno about a good deal.

I have not heard of Hawes (not that it in itself means anything.) It appears brass framed. You can order a NIB brass framed '51 in .44 from Cabelas for 139 bucks. About 150 including shipping.

I just noticed that there appears to be a gap between the grip frame and the main frame. I don't know that it means anything.

I would be curious what the internal parts look like. While not used much was it cleaned after it was used?? The three visible screws look like they have not been touched, again makes me wonder if it was cleaned after use.

I might wave a 100 dollar bill at him and see if he bites.

Yea, I looked into it a bit, and I don't think it's a deal at all. I'm gonna pass on it.

Thanks for the info.

I bet you had a blast. Yea, the "El Cheapo" in me had hopes of finding a better deal than Allan found, but no such luck. Plus, I told him I didn;t wanna be a complete copy cat, but again, no such luck. He got a nice gun, at what seems to be a very nice price.

TDR, back in the civil war I think many people used the same guns. I don't think they were looked at as copycats. Heck if I did not already have two '51's I would be getting one like XD's.

dang I wish I could have been there yesterday too.

I know what ya mean. by the way, are CVA's any good? Or Pietta's? And I guess that all steel guns are better than brass framed?

Hi guys! Just made it back from the long trip. I had a blast though I watched Angel & dakota shoot more than I did. The Colt shot great Until I didn't load any powder in one round. Instead of a BANG I got a poof:stunned:, ok though I just remove the ball & go again.

Mark thanks for the day at your place. Very nice place & people to be around. Angel is wanting to get another one so I'm sugesting the Cattleman. I'm reminding her that FATHERS DAY is comming up:whistle: wish me luck.

TDR I did shoot some balls that I casted with my mold using pure stickon wheel weights. They worked pretty good. As a matter of fact could not tell a difference. Usually you can ask a tire center & sometimes they will give you some, if they don't that means someone there is selling it for scrap. If you can get some (stickon) weights I will be happy to help you out.

XD, Angel, we enjoyed your visit. You could'a left Bailey with us, she's got a good headstart on wrapping folks around her little finger. XD, next time you and Dakota get up our way, I hope the wimmenfolks will let you go camping.

TDR, the only cheaper revolver I know of is the brass frame from Cabela. For the extra 30 bucks, the steel frame Pietta (like XD's) is probably worth it.

I'd avoid CVA in preference to Pietta. Ubertis used to be much better fit and finish, but judging from XD's, not so much, anymore. I will note that Ubertis are closer to the original dimensions, are more historically accurate, and don't have the slightly annoying stampings on the side of the barrel - Black Powder Only, Pietta, etc. Also if you want a small frame ('62's, for example) you need to buy Uberti. For a '51, though, Pietta will be more than fine - and XD's was very nice. I doubt that a Uberti '51 is really worth the extra 60 bucks you're likely to pay.

The Pietta is fine, either in steel or brass. I see no problem whatsoever with a brass framed gun. With moderate loads the brass frame will last forever. By moderate I mean 20 grains. A full blown load is thirty grains. In all of my guns 20 grains runs most accurately anyway.

But if brass bothers you or you think it will bother you then get to same pistol as XD's. If you don't want the '51 in .44 cal then check out Cabelas. They have a multitude of option in regards to BP revolvers and all the prices are very competitive.

I acually like casting the balls. It's not bad with the right equipment. The Lee melting pot Ihave did cost about $90 but it was worth it. I also cast fishing sinkers, jig heads, & spinnerbaits. I enjoy it all & so does Dakota. O the pot holds 20lbs of lead & is a bottom pour so that makes it easy. Iprbably have casted 200 balls in about an hr. of time.

I thought about getting the stuff to make my own, but my girlfriend reminded me that I live in an apartment. Heck, we're not even allowed to have a grill, so I don't think they'd like me melting pots of lead.

Hey TDR you need to go ahead & get the pistol like I have before they are sold out. I had a blast shooting it & so did Angel & Dakota. If you don't mind haveing one like mine I don't. Hey we have to start somewhere, might as well start cheep.

I know it. I'm actually thinking about getting the 1858 New Model Army - .44 Cal. By: Palmetto. I'm trying to make up my mind.

Academy Sports and Outdoors had a couple for $199-$220. They came as a package deal, with all kinds of little goodies. Both had brass. One was your model, and I can't remember the other model.
