Rock River Arms heartburn...

So here's the situation...

Back in March RRA had a sale on their rifles. The price was right so I ordered a couple.

One of the features listed was a chrome BCG. Long story longer 4.5 months later the rifles finally arrive. Everything is all nice and good. Then I notice a green note card in the box stating that due to supply/demand they are unable to supply chrome BCG's with these rifles. Effective 7/10/2012.

I immediately contacted RRA, and they refuse to take any action to rectify this situation. Merely stating that they reserve the right to change specs and pricing with out notice on all future and current orders.

I feel like I got the old switch-a-roo here. I mean on most rifles the chrome BCG is a $50 adder. They did not charge me any less.

I realize the difference in a phosphated BCG and a chrome on are minor. Still, the product I received was of lesser value than what I ordered. I think they should have a least contacted me prior to shipping, so I could decided if I wanted to cancel or keep the order...

Am I just being a big baby here or what?

No, there's not much difference in it. As far as quality, I'd say the rifles will run just as well for just as long......BUT that AIN'T what you paid for and yes I'd raise $50 worth of heck over it. They'd do something about it just to get me to stop harassing them over the phone on a daily basis. I'd call everyday and complain until they did something or blocked my number. Then I'd just call from a different phone. Don't forget to write a nice E-mail and copy it. Send that once a day too. If there's more than one email address, send it to each of them.

When did you pay? When you ordered or when it shipped? If they changed your order after you paid without notice, that sounds illegal. Worth a call to the BBB at least. I'll mark them off the list of places to shop.

I think it's their written policy. Still, they should have sent swag, or something.

FWIW, I think AR parts are pretty scarce right now. It's possible that they paid as much or more for the BCG you wound up with.

I ordered 3/15 and provided my ccard info at that time. My card was not charged until the rifles shipped 7/31.

It is their written policy per their CSR. This wasn't a small order either, b/c my FIL ordered 2 rifles too. So it was $3360.00

Like you say a mag or a couple of T shirts would have gone a long way. Emails aren't working so i'm gonna start calling.

This was their response to my request to a $50 per rifle refund.

"Unfortunately there is nothing that we are able to do about the chrome carriers, I understand your frustration but our website states that we reserve the right to change prices, configurations and specifications without notice, this change was not taken lightly and weighs heavily with the company and is not something that we ever wanted to do. You are more than welcome to call into the customer service department and speak with a manager regarding the your complaint."

Buyers beware...

While not getting what you want is crappy and bad busniess I will say this. You got a better bolt. The phosphate coated bolt carriers hold onto their oil better while the chrome carriers tend to have their lubricate fall away.

If I were to upgrade it would only be Bn coating. That is it. Either phosphate or Bn.

I would continue to be a thorn in thyeir side until they make it right.

Did you order directly from RRA? If so that is where I would call every single day and send an email every day. If it was ordered by a dealer I would contact them and give them an opportunity to make it right. And if they don't then oust them on here.

I would call and say that the bolt carriers are not properly coated. When they ask for them to be sent back write a letter explaining your ordered chromed carriers and got phosphated ones. I would also attach a copy of the order form.

Again, if he paid when he ordered I would consider the receipt a legally binding contract. I'd definitely call the BBB.

So you order a 30 rd mag and they ship you a 20rd because they ran out of 30's and the buyer has no recourse? That's bs.

Legally binding, with their conditions of sale attached. This is nothing but RRA's inept way of dealing with customers. The folks in the shop are as good as it gets. The folks in the office ain't.

I ordered direct from RRA, so they are on the hook for this one.

I would have been fine with the bolt carriers if they just would have notified me in advance vs trying to slip one by. That's just too dang shady. Who know's what other specs were changed with out notice...

Wow, that sucks pretty hard. Doubt I will be stocking many of their rifles in the future.

AND there it is! What do they care if I don't buy my next AR from them. I've bought three complete AR's in my life. Built the rest.

Wonder how many AR's G&L sell in a given amount of time? I'm guessing more than 3.

Here's the quote, so nobody has to just take my word for it.

The chrome bolt carrier group was a not an additional price on the rifle sale Operator 2 Series, so the price will not be reduced. Unfortunately we had no other choice in the matter, if we didn't change the option than the rifles would have been on indefinite backorder and production would stop, we made the decision to keep the rifles shipping with a black carrier. It by no way reduces the quality of our rifles, a chrome carrier simply aids in ease of cleaning because carbon does not stick as easily to chrome, it does not enhance the function of the rifle. If you would like to keep the chrome carrier group option we can do that, but the rifle will be on INDEFINITE backorder and will need to be confirmed and changed by the dealer ONLY to reflect the chrome carrier option. Once the rifle is changed to reflect the chrome carrier, if at any time you decide you do not want to wait and would like it changed back, it will start the order over for the date of the change, if the sale is no longer valid the order would be canceled or kept with the chrome carrier substitution. We did give notice on the website as soon as the change was made.

This is better than the last response, and kinda what I figured. Rock and a hard place. Of course, you're not going to leave the rifle on indefinate backorder. I would be less pissed. They still have a really weak bedside manner, especially since you had to drag it out of them. The upside is that they make a great product. It's why they stay backordered, even with a crappy personality.

That notice has been up for months I believe, could be wrong.

Either way whatever excuse they used it's not right just to put you off like that. I had a problem a month or so ago where a guy came in and bought a Palmetto AR from us. He got home and realized that the rifle he bought should have come with a flip-up rear sight that it did not have with it. Come to find out later the model he bought was supposed to be a flattop and not with sights, but we threw in the sight anyway. Why? Cause it's worth more than a flip up rear sight to us to have a happy customer, than a mad one. Word of mouth is far stronger than most people give it credit.

*gasp* You give something away to appease a customer and you're still open for business afterward?

J/K. Actually, stuff like that is why you'll STAY in business. I really need to head up that way someday and spend some money.
