Good deal...hopefully, that will turn some heads. Possibly even shake things enough to can Harwell as Speaker. Up this way, looks like Tony Shipley barely survived "getting primaried" - took Sullivan Co by only 11 votes. Unfortunately, Ramsey and Lundberg ran unopposed.

Channel 5 pulled their report of it on their mobile website.

Not only were gun owners upset but some teachers did not care for Debra.

I'm so happy with this. A friend of mine spoke to her on my behalf regarding a totally unrelated matter and my impression was that she thought of herself as an imperial overlord. Zero respect for her.

Of possibly less notoriety, (but no less affect) is candidate Lauri Day's win up in Clarksville, (if she can carry through the General) is of major import at well. I have known and worked with both of these Ladies over the course of the last several years in their Tea Party actions, and can promise that neither will be inclined to vote for Harwell for Speaker.

I think you are seeing a revolt against republicanism here in TN (...and other places as well; look at the recent TX republican senate primary, ALA Ted Cruze...). Many republicans in this state (...and others...) practice "republicanism"; which is no more than saying you are pro-gun, pro-life, yada, yada, yada....; but you govern as a "governing elite". After all, you are "the best and brightest" because the people chose you to lead them. You know better than the "delightful rustics" who sent you to the state house. If there are any decisions to be made or deals to be cut, you'll make em.

The Tea Party has done lots to open the eyes of lots of folks that their rep. or senator may be practicing "republicanism". The fact that several TN state republicans had to face real opposition in the primaries should sober these clowns up. The Tea Party is far from dead and a republican practicing "republicanism" may be an endangered species if they cross enough of the right people. As others have said time and time again in various political posts here on TGO; we need to "clean house". Looks to me like the voters are beginning to do just that. I see that as a good thing.

Congratulations to those who want to do the right thing. Woe to those who do the wrong.

It should also be noted that Vance Dennis has not been declaired the winner yet as his lead as of last night was only 5 votes. I spoke with a person who is very active in that district. He said that he was not comfortable with the lady who ran against Vance and was not sure if he would have wanted her to win but he is also happy with Vance. If Vance prevails, he should at LEAST be quaking in his boots and maybe just MAYBE he will understand the need to not stab his supporters in the back.

I noted that the WSMV report stated that one goal is to repeal the permit. I have never heard that there was an intent to REPEAL the permit. Yes, a goal is to get a Vermont or Constitutional Carry bill passed but that would go along with the permit. It would just make it so that a permit is not REQUIRED for Tennessee residents. We would still want a permit so that we could still carry when we travel in other states that still require permits and honor the Tennessee permit.

Members are angry at the NRA? Let's see how that works for them.

Based on Ms. Harwell's quote RE: "..The NRA Influence..."; my guess is that Ms Harwell has either had a stroke that has clouded her thinking, or that she is in denial (...lots of politicos do that, ya know....). I think the "real influence" is the tiredness of folks with high handed "take it or leave it" politics by the "best and brightest"; demorat and republican. The NRA just chose to exercise it's First Amendment rights by engaging in political speech in the public forum regarding the actions of a political figure. What could be more American that that?? More than that, they evidently told the truth about Ms Maggart. Looks to me like folks in her district didnt like what they heard and decided to do somethin about it.

Folks are tired of that (...sayin one thing and doin the other....) and Ms Harwell would do well to understand that. I'll guarantee that for "...every NRA member that is very angry with how they (...the NRA...) conducted themselves..."; there are 10 who think that the NRA did the right thing; and hundreds of non-NRA folks who think cleaning house is a good idea. Ms Harwell and "The Snozz" Haslam need to understand that this is bigger than NRAism. Its about folks being tired of polititians sayin one thing and doing another. I say they better be careful; and the smart ones will be. It remains to be seen just how smart Ms. Harwell and "Snozz" are.

Was Harwell referring to NRA or House members? If she meant House members I say at their own political peril.

I don't want anybody to misunderstand what I am going to say. I think the NRA and TFA along with the unhappy gun owners in her district played a VERY large part in defeating Maggart. But we also have to give credit to another issue that was very instrumental as well.

When I went up there to knock on doors, we encountered a lot of teachers who were VERY unhappy with Maggart. Remember Maggart pushed legislation to take away the collective bargaining rights of Tennessee teachers.

It is good that the General Assembly is focusing on the efforts of gun owners, the TFA and NRA in bringing down Maggart because we want them to know that the same thing can happen to them.

As for Harwell's making light of the influence of the TFA and NRA, I think she is way more concerned than she makes out to be. She just does not want to give public credit and wants to downplay the strength we have gained with with victory. But as I have said in other circumstances (I play league pool a couple of nights a week), when your foot is on your opponents throat, don't let up.

I would be very interested to have a conversation with Ms. Harwell in a Public Forum to discuss her statement from the article: "I don't think the NRA will have any more influence then they have in the past. There are some members that are quite frankly very angry with how they conducted themselves". I was personally involved in most of the face to face meetings on the Hill about this issue, and at no time did anyone with the NRA or TFA say or do anything that could be construed as being other than civil.

The consortium of 2nd Amendment supporters, consisting of TN NRA members, TFA members and Tea Party groups who decided to combine their efforts to replace a member of Leadership who chose to obfuscate and be less than truthful in her dealings with the Citizens of this State have not gone away, they simply become more dedicated in their efforts to see that the Constitution is upheld instead of allowing Corporate dollars to decide how our children and grand children live.

I question how much of this loss can be attributed to the teachers' union types being miffed. They're usually registered Dumbascraps, so few would be voting in a GOP primary.

On the same note, us pro-carry folks aren't in the majority either, not even here in the South. However, the NRA adds were very well done and they exposed how she kept legislation from getting an up or down vote on the floor. That stinks of dirty politics and being in the pocket of fat cats like FedEx.

So, I hope it's her dirty politics that earned her loss as much as anything else. Last thing I want is another bullseye painted on the backs of gun owners and the NRA.

No doubt that the NRA had some impact. I don't mind if every politician knows it. They can paint a target on the backs of gun owners if they're that stupid, but can't do ####e to the NRA. Best for them if they just pay attention to what happened.
