does anybody know where i could find aluminum gun cases with the "eggcrate" foam inside? need some for pistols and long guns also.

i have a pic of one i got at a yard sale that i will post up shortly

thanks

oh, and i dont need it to be "airline-safe" or have a secure lock, just a secure latch. just want something nice and safe (for my firearms) to keep them in at home, and to transport them in.

I have a couple like the one in your picture that I bought at Academy in Franklin.

They are regularly about $40 but they run them on sale for around $25. They are very cheaply made and won’t take much abuse, but they are better than the plastic cases for storage.

i wouldnt mind paying up to around $60-80 for a good solid long gun case. but want good quality.

i dont have an academy's or dick's or etc. around here.

after doing some research,im thinkin of getting 2 SKB double rifle cases for transporting my guns and kalispel cases to store them in. i dont have a gun safe and dont have a place to put one and need something besides the top of the closet shelf or under the bed to put them. they are a bit over my budget for one, but ive found that you have to pay to get good quality when it comes to guns/accessories, learned that the hard way.

If you need a cheap but yet secure place to store your weapons put a dead bolt on a closet door.Unlike a lockable door knob it can not be pried open with a screw driver

Good idea, but aren't the exposed hinge pins still an issue? Couldn't the pins be tapped out and the door removed that way? I've considered fixing a closet that way, but haven't yet because of the issue noted above.

Well yes but I dont really see a burglar taking the time to rummage through your house to find a hammer and screw driver, then taking the time to remove painted on hinge pins.I guess it could happen though, but it still beats nothing.

Your only looking at around 15 20 bucks or so,or if your really cheap Wallyworld has them for like 7 or 8 bucks

Edit: just be sure if you did to chisel out enough room for the bolt to fully extend in the door jam

I had my hall closet made into a gun closet. Added sheet metal to the inside. Added

a deadbolt with a pry bar screen over it. Took out the hinge pin cut some off the

bottom and JB welded (epoxy) them in place. My wife did the work when she was waiting to have the baby. She added a walnut gun rack around the walls. It cost about $60.00 for everything.
