Homosexuality

I'm still trying to understand how there can be so many different religions, with so many different "God's", yet all are convinced that their religion is the "right" religion.

Could any "God" really sentence someone to hell, simply because they're confused?

I had forgotten about this letter...

someone sent it to a nutty right-wing talk show host who claimed

that homosexuality was, according to the bible, an abomination.

this letter nicely puts it in o.t perspective.

and it’s really funny.

which is good.

cos people like funny.

right.

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states homosexuality to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

:D I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?

g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

I can't believe that so many people come to a gun site & talk about this. 75 posts in one day, you would think Hero Gear was having a drawing for a j-frame, or Rabbi getting a realoading class or something. There is more posting on this thread than the all the other threads combined. I know it's off topic, so I just threw that in. That's my:2cents:!

God does not sentence you to hell; you do, through your own choices and actions.

John 14:"6": Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

There is no multiple choice there. All will be given the chance to choose; what happens depends on their personal choice.

Man made religion sets standards that have nothing to do with the saving power or grace and love of Jesus. As in Mark, 7:

"5": Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

"6": He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

"7": Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

"8": For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

"9": And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Too often importance is given to that which is not.

If he comes back, we'll do it again.....

I do not have the power to save or damn anyone, all I can do is try to live my life as I see fit. If a person lives their life as a good person I believe it is all that can be asked of them.

I do believe in GOD but quite possibly not the same as some of you, I do not believe this will damn you. We are so small compared to life itself that we have to live as we see fit and hope we have done right.

None of us can know the plan GOD has for us or others so be good to each other and love as much as you can, hate can only hurt you.:D

IThe point is to air opinions. And that's been done, and done pretty well. Pagan.

No doubt that we've heard a lot of opinions. :stare:

I want the half hour of my life back these religion topics have wasted. :D

And yes I'm a pagan - I'm a Methodist.

I AGREE! I am not the one to preach religion, I can only say I don't go to church EVERY Sunday. If I get off work at 2am on Saturday night & I can't get up the next morning. I believe he will not punish me because I don't go to his temple every week! Live each day as it could be judgement day. To the best of your ability!

You guys have put out alot of views. I thank you for that!

My aunt, the Nun, was also one of my teachers in the 6th and 8th grades. In the sixth grade during religion class she was asked this same question by a kid in my class. Don't know why this stuck with me but it did. (Ask me what I had for lunch a few days ago and I would be hard pressed to answer) Anyway her reply was something like, "as long as that person holds true to the beliefs in their religion they will be able to get into heaven."

Bill if I was closer to Nashville I would have to pay you a visit big boy :D

Wow, it actually took a lot to get through all 9 pages of this post and there are very interesting points and I had pretty well decided to keep my mouth shut, but that is hard for me so I guess i will put in my short rave.

It is sad that Christians have gotten so judgemental on a lot of issues. I grew up believing that homosexuals, alcoholics, smokers and even Catholics were all going HELL. Which is why I ended up leaving the church after attending 2 years at their University. I know my mom is in a constant fit since I now drink, smoke, and I am Catholic.

One thing I have learned over the years and that the Catholic church teaches is that we have no place to judge anyone or condemn anyone. We do not know what God's "criteria" is for who he allows into heaven, that is one of the wonderful "mysteries of God". I do believe we have to answer for our sins, but as far as what keeps one from the gates of Heaven, I leave that to the "big man".

Now, I do believe homosexuality is a sin and a choice. I know 2 people who were gay for over 10 years each (one is a woman and the other is a man) and they are both straight now. I am not going to condemn or judge anyone for their choices, I am going to love them and pray for them. Homosexuality is a sin, but it is no worse then someone constantly living under the influence of pornography or premarital sex. Sin is sin and everyone will have to answer for their sins.

Jesus did say "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." There is no limit to God's mercy and I believe it is wrong to try and put God in a box and say that we as humans know what God thinks and will do.

Mike357, don't look at me when you say that....

As for your aunt's response, the guys who blew up the towers in 9/11 certainly were holding true to their beliefs. But I really doubt they're going to heaven, of any description.

Try the Bible. It is pretty straight forward.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father but through me.",

"If you confess with you're mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.",

"for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, shall be saved."

And as far a drinking and smoking, I've searched and can't find those scriptures about their damnation. In fact Paul told the Corinthians they needed to start drinking and having sex (marriage). So there you go and tell them a Preacher told you that!:D

I think this has turned into the bump your post count here thread!:stare:

I do not know, neither does any other person on this Earth. But I do believe that I should not say they are. If someone does live a life of sin, I do believe they are going to have a really rough time when facing the Lord on judgement, but it is not my place to say what he will do, but I pray for his mercy when I get there, I sure as hell am going to need it.

Then how do you know those things are sins? Or anything is a sin,for that matter? (hint: look at NSNate's post above).
