So, if an officer asks you for a license and registration, which may not be required for you to have, that doesn't mean you get to walk home before they are done with their stop, does it?

Two Niota Police Department officers have been arrested, accused of injuring a man during an arrest last summer, the TBI says.

Officer Donald McCarter, 45, and Officer Jonathan Scott, 22, were each charged with one count of official oppression and one count of conspiracy to commit official oppression, according to TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm.

I guess that area is looking for anything to get money from? I don't know anything about the

legality of putting a motor on a bicycle, and at the point to which it becomes a motor vehicle,

but, by the looks of the two alone, I would surmise they could do better looking for real

criminals, rather than becoming criminals.

The incident was a year ago and they were arrested three months ago. Anything happened since then? All I see is they were suspended without pay and expected to be fired. 2/3rds of the Police Department is on suspension.

The article said that the charge of oppression must come from a grand jury. I assume that was part of the hold up in addition to that would be the time it took for the charges against the citizen to clear.

And the time it takes for the TBI to investigate. It's not something to rush into, like maybe a murder.

I just want to know what happened. I searched and didn’t find much other than the Mayor saying he was sure they would be fired. I’m also wondering why they didn’t go with the assaultive charges; aggravated assault.

Just an unusual charge…..

I was wondering why the bicyclist decided to walk away from a traffic stop even if it was just down the street from his home.

They have three; two are on suspension. :)

One's plenty to call cabs for the country club drunks. Of course, they'll have to cut back on the TBCS.*

There is more to it than everyone "knows". One of the cops has a history of "official oppression" type activity. Its a shame this tool is gonna walk away rich.
