And this is why you need a holster, even with a pocket gun, that covers the trigger. I don't care if it has a safety or is a DAO gun. Too bad he is a HCP holder.

It could have been a lot worse. Had the gun severed the guys femoral artery then he would have been taken to the morgue rather than jail. Or if he had killed the child.

Now the fun begins and I bet his defense will be " I thought I was being shot at like Aurora" and that is why I ran.

Who keeps a pistol AND a wallet in the same pocket anyway?

I do. And a spare mag. And its in a holster that covers the trigger. the wallet offers concealment by producing a wallet outline on the pocket. All that is in standard jeans pockets, not some monster pocket or tactical clothing. I can get my hand in there and draw it without issue. My wallet is thinner than most --- just my HCP/DL, couple of credit cards, not much else to pull this off, mind you, its not a 5 pound man wallet of 1 million photos and business cards etc.

I pulled out my wallet and actually looked at the "brick". No way I could get one in there like that. I see how you could with that setup though.

Took a look at the video of the cops arresting the guy. The cops are examining his gun in one scene. . . . Kinda looks like a Glock. . . . Someone else check me on that.

A superfly holster provides a square outline.

Aye & sig makes one specifically for the gun that does the same, but I like what I have just fine (remorra which sticks to the pocket liner very well and gives good access to the grip).

the problem is not having the gun in a pocket with other stuff --- trust me, if it were an issue, I would have shot myself by now, I have had a gun in a pocket for over a decade now. The problem was this guy pulled on the trigger of his piece somehow --- same as always, not reported, but that is what happened.

Very possible, it appears the owner was shot in the butt. (hey you knew someone would say it)

Yeah, I always put my wallet in a different pocket than usual when I carry, just for the simple reason that if I don't then they're both to the right of me (OC on right side, a little to the back, wallet in back right pocket) and I realize that going for my wallet looks exactly like going for my gun for a second, so I'll keep my wallet somewhere on the left for the time being.

How you manage to shoot a gun getting your wallet? And running was stupid.

Rule 1 of Pocket Carry: use a holster. Even a cheap little nylon Desantis will do the job.

Rule 2 of Pocket Carry: nothing else, and I mean NOTHING ELSE goes in that pocket. EVER.

Follow those two rules and you're golden. Break them and you're begging for a negligent discharge.

I carry a S&W 649 like that all the time in my right front pocket and I've never had anyone notice. You'll notice it when you look in the mirror, but other people just don't unless you point it out.

Gonna have to agree to disagree here. This is like the 15 rules of gun safety where you lock the gun and ammo up in different areas of the country. Its safe, and it works, but its also overkill. There is no way the stuff I allow in the gun pocket can fire the weapon --- its possible if you had no holster and stuck a finger size and shaped object in there, yes (pocket knife, screwdriver, etc gets in the trigger guard, I can see it). A soft wallet pulls the trigger through a holster after taking off the safety? Not possible. The spare mag? It does not fit in the trigger guard, and to do that would require turning it 90 degrees to reality inside the pocket, also not possible for my setup (could be for some guns?).

There is only one cause of ND. It is the N.

First off, I never say "not possible." Murphy will FIND a way.

Second, I don't put anything else in there because in an emergency I don't want to have to fumble around ANYTHING else. If my hand goes in that pocket it should find one thing and one thing only. When fractions of a second matter, sticking my hand down there and having to maneuver around another object is not acceptable.

The second part has nothing to do with a ND. I will even give that one to you ... your draw might beat mine. But mine is not going to cause a ND.

Murphy can be invoked to say that even using your rules, something will find a way to go wrong. Its a catch all, no matter what you do, you lose under those "laws". No need to give him a hand, of course, but again, its like trying to put a bowling ball into a beer can: it wont fit.

I do the same exact thing.

I'm going to call my buddy who brews his own beer and get to work on this right away.

Sounds good
