i must have missed that "expression"

i, also, dont see the point in porting a j-frame, they had to move the front sight back to allow for the ports. i can see it on a 6" .44mag revolver maybe or even the 8 3/8" .500mag but not a .38spl. jframe

Yea.... that looks pretty stoopid.

I do, however like my PC 629. I don't know if you'd call it a port, a muzzle brake, or whatever, but it's got a "port" up front, but not where the barrel is actually rifled. At the fron sight, it's almost like it opens up a bit to a chamber-like area. You can kinda' see what I'm saying here:

I have shot this gun back to back with a nearly identical 6" S&W 629 with the same box of ammo, and I experienced a slightly smaller amount of muzzle flip, as did the three other people with me. As Rabbi said, though, it's a dumb thing for a close-in defense gun. I don't expect to whip my .44 out of my pants (keep your minds out of the gutter) for defense purposes, so I don't mind the port in this case. But if someone told me they wanted to port my 2" 64-4, I'd slap them in the face right then and there.

I think it's a stupid idea myself. My wife shots A key tel tec PF9 with p+ rounds with no problem. She also loves shooting my S&W model 13-3 with 357 mags. I can't see why you would want one ported.
