New to the East TN area

Howdy all,

I have recently retired from the Navy, and the wife and I are taking an extended vacation before I start a new career. Since I retired on June 1st we have visited Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Germany and France. Now we are slowly trying to find a location to settle. Most of our family is in Florida, so on our way down we decided to stop here to check out the area for a few weeks. I was stationed at Patuxent River, MD for the past 4 1/2 years, and we are sure glad to see MD in our rear view mirror. We are currently camping at Warrior's Path State Park in our RV, plus I have my boat in tow, so this park should work out well. Oh, and thankfully TN honors my FL CCW permit.

Retired HTCM here, live about 10 minutes from Warrior's Path. Did a similar scenario, and the wife and I decided to settle here for plenty of reasons, non the least of which is that this area is a microcosm of whats good about America; a stable economy, genuinely decent people, safe and secure living(really don't have to lock our doors..), close to everything, and formerly a resident of FL, there are no hurricanes! I wish you all the best on your travels, and am sure you will find a place to land and call home- Welcome to the retired fleet.... Thank you for your service!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.

flhtcm - LOL...I'm a retired AVCM. Looks like we have alot in common. Maybe we could get together some time, tell some sea stories and you could give us the lay of the land. So far we really like the area, so we are going to do some more looking around and possibly settle in the area.

Greetings Mr. Rob,

First off, thank you for your service to our country. I live in Knoxville about an 1:45 from Kingsport. You are in a great area there. I lived in the Tri-cities for a brief period of time. Have some wonderful friends in Colonial Heights, just a stones throw from Warriors Path. Funny, because my buddy was just telling me yesterday they are going to get the boat in the water there at WP for one more cruise this weekend before prepping it for winter. I hope you and your wife find the Volunteer state to be hospitable. My friends go to a wonderful church about 20 mins from WP. Let me know if you'd like the info.

Take care,

BravoLima

Welcome to the area and please accept my thanks for your service to this country. That also applies to everyone on here who served the land that I love. I was with the Naval Security Group and later the Army Security Agency. Worked for Uncle Sam the rest of the years after that and retired three years ago. I live in the Johnson City area.
