This exactly is what's wrong with America. We have become a nation of flighters instead of fighters (minus a few of us.) I understand that a woman may not want to take on a man, but there were no men there that tried to take him down? I feel like we've become a nation of wimps and the American spirit of fighting evil is gone. What's most ironic is that it took place in a movie where good is fighting evil. I know it was dark and smokey, but it was also dark and smoky for the shooter too. We need more flight 93 type people and less Jersey Shore types.

Huckabee made this statement after naming off some of the statistics of other instances where human life is lost, not to draw away from the victims, but to make people realize that the other lives are just as important. His examples were people with emotional or mental issues that lead to suicides and abortions.

Pitiful. These people were in a dark theater filled with tear gas being slaughtered by a man in body armor (and gas mask) that had guns blazing. You're gonna sit there and judge them for their actions? Pitiful. The only people that know what coulda been done are those that were in that theater.

Huckabee touched on something there, but I'd also ad that it has a lot to do with the move toward no family values. The federal government is raising the majority of kids these days while both parents work to keep up with the joneses, pay for cable, cell phones for everyone in the family or to just keep food on the table and the lights on in some cases. Why were there so many young children at this event? First of all, it is a very dark movie and second of all, it was midnight. It makes me ponder the lack of family and morals in today's society.

Until you have been faced with a situation like this you have ZERO clue how you are going to act or react. We all have grand illussions about how we are going to be the great hero but in reality most of us won't. The majority of us are going to stunned by the violence of action and then do what we need to in order to survive, including run.

Now there are things that can help you cope and hopefully act during a situation like this. Training is one but no amount of training will prepare you for the feeling you get when it is a life and death situation. Another is life experiences. If a person is a gangbanger that has been shot several times they are going to react very differently than a housewife to an active shooter. And to go a bit farther your physical condition can also affect that. If you are sick it can have a negative impact or if you are physically fit you can deal with the adrenaline better.

We can all sit here and play things out in our head but in reality it is only our imagination. And our imagination is not going to kill us.

I HAVE been in several situations in which I could have lost my life. I will say the first time I was scared ####less but because of training it helped me cope and eventually react. After going through similar situaitons over and over again I guess you could say I became accustomed to dealing with it. And even today I cannot guarantee I would act, I would hope I would but you never know it that moment in time.

Well said Dolomite! I know how I would like to act, but I have not idea how I would react, if I were in that situation. Personally, I thought the mother did a great job! She know what had to be done and when to do it and when the time came, she made her break and kept her child safe. That was what was important. I suspect the first thing most of us would think about first is to make sure our loved ones are as safe as possible. There were several instances were boyfriends protected their girlfriends and lost their lives. Those are the ones that are being reported on. There may have been more among those that were wounded.

I'd like to think that I'd have dragged my fat butt close enough to him to pull out my J Frame or even try to tackle him, but having never been in a situation like that I have no friggin idea how I'd react. For all I know I'd completely freak, brown my pants and curl up on the floor. I suspect the truth would fall closer to the first option than the last, but hopefully I'll never find out.

I completely agree with dolomite. I have no idea how I would truly react if faced with that type of situation. To say I would do anything is just an armchair guess.

I tried to make an eloquent post the other day on this situation and failed miserably. I totally agree with those that say it doesn't matter who gets elected, I feel it would be more of the same from Washington. A lot of sound and fury. And I am not just speaking of the 2a. I will vote for someone because it is my civic duty. Just no idea who yet.
