Hey guys (and girls)! I'm not that new to Tennessee, am actually from Europe and have lived here for a few years. Been lurking around the forum for a few weeks already and it seems to be a friendly and helpful place, so I decided to join and introduce myself.

I am getting ready to get my CCP. Got a wakeup call a few weeks ago, when we had a couple of home invasions where the women got raped while the husband was tied up having to listen/watch. Figured that was too close to home and that that was NOT going to be me! And since stuff like this can happen anywhere, anytime, I decided that I need to carry at all times (except while AT work).

So I got the book "The Cornered Cat", bought a Sig P250 .45 Subcompact and whatever gear necessary and started shooting at the Guns and Leather range. Only been a few times so far but I'm doing pretty good for a complete newbie and will take the CCP course soon. After that I won't stop learning, but train more, take some tactical courses and maybe learn some Krav Maga (or similar) to have a better chance of survival when I can't carry or got surprised somehow.

Sounds kind of paranoid when I write it like that :squint:, but I'm sure you guys will understand, which is another reason the forum is nice - to have others that understand why you feel the need to carry.

Welcome to the board.

Coming from Germany you are probably a bit overwhelmed with the gun laws here versus in Germany. And you never know when something bad is going to happen so it is never bad or paranoid to be prepared.

We have at least one other German speaking member here. Maybe she will show her face in here.

Welcome to the forum, the guys (and gals) here are definitely a helpful bunch. Most aren't very judgemental, we all have our different opinions on what things may work best for us. One thing just about all of us agree on is that it is your responsibility to ensure your own safety, so take whatever precausions you feel necessary. Definitely learn/train as much as possible, all the tacticool gungear in the world can't save you if you don't practice.

If you haven't checken out the cornered cat website I know that is a great resource for females starting ot carry. Something you will spend a lot of time and possibly money on is figuring out the best position to carry along with what type of holster. Enjoy your stay and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Your ball and chain was the first person that came to mind when the OP mentioned being from germany. Shame they are off in middle TN land.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

Yes, in Germany most people don't have guns (that includes most BGs). Felt much safer there. Not that bad things don't happen over there, but I've never heard about home invasions or seen such a low threshold for violence among quite a large percentage of the population.

Definitely learn/train as much as possible, all the tacticool gungear in the world can't save you if you don't practice.

I'm breaking in a IWB holster (kydex/leather mix) around the house and have been to the Cornered Cat website. -Thank you very much for the tip though. The website has mostly everything that's in the book (could have saved the money and just read the website to be quite honest). I'm sure I'll need to get a few more holsters down the road for different clothing.

Guten Abend und herzlich willkommen.. :)

Yep..I am German also. :)

This is the best place to be for gun-related stuff

Na das find ich ja klasse! Wuerd mich freuen oefter mal mit jemandem von Deutschland austauschen zu koennen, der in in den Staaten wohnt und versteht wovon man redet ;o)

Thank you all so much!

I lived in Germany for 7 years as a kid, when my dad was stationed in Fulda and Stuttgart. We are planning a family vacation next year so my family can experience Germany. Welcome to the board and to Tennessee. Great to have you.

I love that idea! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. You'll have to take your kids to an ice cream parlor over there and let them get one of those eleborately crafted ice cream dishes. Have you ever had "spaghetti ice cream"? Vanilla ice cream made to look like spaghetti, strawberry instead of tomatoe sauce, and white chocolate rasps as parmesan cheese ;o)

The only thing I know how to say in german is the word for grenade and sadly that's from playing to much xbox but I'll gladly say welcome the way I know how. Welcome!

No, please no grenades for me :P !

Haha, I still make a fool out of myself sometimes with the way I make up English words from German words when I don't know the word I'm looking for.
