That is pretty neat, at $129 plus shipping the price is kinda high I would imagine, but who knows. Seems like it would be OK for temporary use, the product description does not give you the gauge of the metal casing, so it would be uncertain to me how long it would last with repeated use. Thanks for the post, its a very interesting combination of old and new technology.

It looks like they are not offering the home stove at this time. Or do you see it somewhere with a price? I too would be interested in the home stove.

FAQ says they are focusing on making it available in under-developed countries etc. It has a link where you can sign up to be alerted if the home stove becomes available.

The little one is now on my Xmas list :)

very cool. thanks for the post. hope they sell the homestoves at a resonable price. I wonder if the home stove will produce more electricity vs the campstove?

Thermo electric generators are cool as heck but not very efficient. But when you use them on wasted heat sources they don't have to be. You could put a TEG cell on anything that produces high amounts of heat thaAt you aren't using. You can get a 15watt TEG cell for less than $100. Stick one on the side of your wood stove or even an exhaust manifold of your truck.

Read about the Seebeck effect. It's really cool.

My interest in it lies more in the recharging aspect. A lot of people scoff at the idea of electronic devices after a SHTF event, but being able to turn on my Kindle/Nook and re-read a survival manual will be a big help.

A good point. A couple of good maps and edible and medicinal plant books downloaded might come in real handy.

BUt if all you wanted was a personal device for preloaded media, I would think a small solar panel would suit you better. TO conserve water in a SHTF we should all be practicing a work/move at night rest sleep in the day M.O. You'd have it charging while you rest.

Gotcha, and i under stand i use a 7 watt solar panel to charge my nook for the same reason, just not sure how long the fire would have to burn to do the charging

@Caster and camp: I agree and a solar recharger is on my list. Also, the stove would come in handy if you needed to charge something at night as well. One final point is that why buy a single tasker if the multi-tasker works just as well? :)

It is now on my list. Very useful product. I have two propane stoves and lots of propane canisters, but I like the idea of not having to rely on fuel. And you can't beat being able to charge iPhones, iPads, and the like. In a SHTF scenario it would be nice to be able to access useful information. And having access to some fun games could be a good morale booster.

Good point. But being a paranoid former-Boy Scout and a 2nd cousin to Murphy, I believe in redundant backups for the redundant backups. :)

Exactly what he said. Most survivalist say have equipment that can serve multiple purposes. Im not sure this is what they mean, but it could be.
