Charlie Sheen to donate minimum of $1M to USO, troop morale

For an individual who I would consider to be classless, this is a pretty classy thing to do. Especially with a Hollywood elite crowd that only pays lip service to our troops, if that. He says that there is no cap on the donation, just that the minimum is $1,000,000. Good for him. I will honestly feel sorrow for him the next time he plummets into a self-destructive binge.

It says that it's part of a campaign to help injured troops, so I'm not sure what that means. It would be nice if it would go to the Wounded Warrior Project. As much as I like what the USO does, I'd be happier with the funds going to support those with a tough road ahead of them due to combat wounds rather than spending it on Gary Sinise's crappy band playing for fobbits.... no offense Gary Sinise, you're a great American.

His publicist probably talked him into it. He still has no class.

If he donated to an "anti-bullying" or an "anti-stand your ground" campaign I might think it was the brainchild of his publicist. Celebrities don't really get much exposure or credit for USO tours. You'd be amazed at how many go over there to visit troops that you never hear about in the media. I think most celebs know this and the ones that participate are the ones that actually care, which makes me think this was a genuine gesture.

Actually he seems like a pretty nice guy. He has his problems, and those are made public because he is famous which probably makes them worse, but I would bet everything he has done has been done by someone on this forum without the publicity. All of it combined? Well most people cannot afford to do ALL that stuff.

I can't say with a great degree of certainty that if I had Sheen's wealth I would not be in a mansion somewhere snorting coke off of a couple of large breasted, 20 year old porn stars. Luckily I was blessed with a small bank account and have a much fuller life than that. However, if I was blessed with tiger blood I'd still support the troops, and I'd mean it. I think he does.

Only 1 million? He's worth 100 million and receives 1.8 million per episode.

Still better then the celebs that beg for dollars for their own charities I guess...

That's one million more than he has to give. I'd be willing to bet that's also more money than any ten forum members here have given.

I personally like Charlie Sheens attitude. Alot of people in his position do similar or even worse things in life but at least he's honest about it and doesn't try to make himself a role model when he isn't one.

Ina way he's just one big ol' walking talking PSA.

I like Charlie Sheen for his honesty and humor. And you certainly can't blame a guy for buying porn stars

But I find donating a mere 1 percent of one show to be insulting. I think most of us here have donated more time and a larger percentage to helping others. Just saying...

So you'd rather he donate nothing than donate 1 million?

Personally, I wish that someone would 'donate' such a piddly-assed amount to me. I wouldn't even complain about it being such a small percentage of their net worth.

He stopped making 2 million an episode a few years ago when he was fired. I highly doubt that he is making anywhere near that now.

Charlie Sheen is worth quite a bit, but he doesn't have the amount of money that he used to. Just the upkeep of his standard of living breaks the bank I figure. $1M might not have been a lot of money to him a few years ago, but I think it's a lot of money to him now.

Also, from what I understand this is the largest individual donation to the USO, which means no rich celeb has ever donated this much before and we've been engaged in combats ops on a large scale for over a decade. Something to keep in mind.

I don't care what his motives are, if it goes to the soldiers I'm all for it: however, I would have liked to have seen it go to the Wounded Warrior Project.

IF Mr. Sheen did this out of the goodness of his heart, then good on him for it. However, I can't help but be suspicious of ANYTHING a hollywood actor does under the name of charity.

I thought it was 1% of profit. No cap with a minimum of 1 mil and not for a single episode but for the show... maybe i read wrong.

Yeah, that's what the article said. $1M minimum is what's important to me. I think presupposing that they will generate $100M in profits is a little ambitious unless they aren't considering overhead, so at least he threw the $1M in there as a minimum. But hey, if it catches on and they make big bucks on it then that's just more money generated. Better spent on the WWP, but at least it's something.

While this author is controversial I'll just leave this here.

http://kitup.military.com/2012/05/tier-wild-promo-updated-wwp.html

The support for Wounded Warrior Project provided by author Dalton Fury (I reported on it yesterday) has been changed to a charity “To Be Determinedâ€. I checked in with him yesterday evening and he advised that upon further research into WWP he could no longer support them. “ simply not too pleased that WWP won’t support fund raising unless you pay them 99 bucks first. Their reviews on charitynavigator.org are pathetic too. I had no idea, now I know…looking for a different org to help at the moment…[and] the current CEO receives a 200k salary and the former CEO STILL receives 230k according to Charity Navigator…â€
