Remington 770 series guns?

Why do they receive so much hate? Do any of you own one of them? I was planning on buying one and came home and did a little research and most all of the reviews I read were negative. I realize that it is a cheaper gun, but I do not want to spend 6 or 7 hundred dollars on a gun that will see limited action (hunting season). I was just wandering what your all's thoughts were.

I think they had a few issues when they came out. People didn't like the fact the barrel couldn't be replaced like the 700's. Buy a Savage if ya want a hunting rifle that you can beat around. Not bad rifles for the money, and the Accutrigger is nice.

The fit and finish isn't very good, the action is the exact opposite of smooth, and we get a lot in for repair. If you're looking for a good, cheap hunting rifle get a Savage Axis. Best entry level hunting rifle I have seen.

i bought a mossberg 4x4 at the pawnshop last week for 169.00 it shoots great even new they are only about 300.00 a very good buy in my book

If I recall, the Axis and Edge are the same rifle. You should also take a look at the Ruger American.

It goes by the Axis now as there was a legal issue with the name.

There's a great market for budget hunting rifles right now though. The Ruger American looks very appealing too.

Ive gota marlin xs7 and highly recomend it if your looking for a budget gun.

I do not, nor will I own one. A year or so ago my 2nd cousin brought his over to replace the scope. After I got it in my hands I gently scolded the young lad for not cleaning and taking better care of it. Anyway, I started cleaning it and the brush got rather loose about and inch and a half down from the crown. The barrel had a nice bulge in it! And add to the fact that the plastic stock has the sling mounts molded into and there fore are not replacable when the break and the do and will break in a very short period of time if you actually put a sling on it. To me its not worth the time, money and effort to buy one and have to always have it repaired/replaced when for a little more cash you could get a much better/sturdier design. Just my 0.02.

For the same money, I would look at a Savage-Stevens. The action of the 770 feels sloppy and cheap to me. The Stevens is also a good platform to upgrade later on down the road.
