CLEO Signature in Knox County

Recommended Posts

I'm putting together my paperwork to SBR an AR 15. Has anyone dealt with the Knox County Sheriff to get the paperwork signed? Just wondering where to take it, how long they usually have it, etc. Also, where would I be able to get my fingerprints done?

Before anyone asks, I'm not going the trust route because I don't want to pay a lawyer $500+ to get a $200 SBR and I have read that the DIY NFA trusts done through the Willmaker software are likely incorrect and thus make your NFA items illegal to possess. I doubt I will buy any other NFA items except for a suppressor so I just can't justify the cost of a trust in my mind.

So, can anyone provide any insight on getting my CLEO signatures and prints in Knox County?

Call Predator on Tuesday. They do this every week so they would know EXACTLY where to go for the signature.

(865) 521-0625.

They may or may not answer right now as they are going through a move.

You also realize you need specific fingerprint cards? Each set of cards has a specific ORI number for the jurisdiction and the ones submitted must have the ATF's ORI. Predator will also have the fingerprint cards you need if you don't already have them.

I do believe Knox County charges for fingerprinting. I know when I had to get mine do they were done downstairs in the city/county building but that was YEARS ago and not for NFA stuff.

They are moving again? Where to now?

Predator is moving about 3/4 mile west of their present location on Papermill Dr. The phones are down so just come in on Tuesday and pick up some fingerprint cards.

Did they find a different place Dave?

I know the location from a week or two ago wasn't zoned correctly so they couldn't use it. Did the zoning change? The location from a few weeks ago would make a GREAT place for the customers.

You can get the CLEO sign of in the Sheriff's office at the City-County Building Downtown. The Sheriff's office is on the ground floor, center of the building. You can give the forms to his secretary, (she is right in the front of the office at the front door) who will have him sign them. I forget her name, but she is really nice and helpful. You will likely need to leave them for a day or two. If you take her a self-addressed and stamped envelope, they will mail the forms back to you. You can even mail them in if you wish, just call the Sheriff's office for the address and process, but I think it is the addy right a the top of the following link. http://www.knoxsheriff.org/departments/index.php .
