Knoxville range recommendation ?

Can someone recommend a good range in knoxville other than coal creek ? My best friends parents live in knoxville and have had many home invasions in their neighborhood. So next weekend I'm heading up there to refresh them on gun safety and Target practice with handguns.

Frontier's range is nice. Gunny's is good. I actually like Coal Creek cause they have the best rental selection. I like to try out new guns.

If they are just looking for 1 time trip, coal creek is fine. To get to a real decent range to frequent normally, they will need to drive outside of K-town. If they know a member of ORSA that can sponsor them, that would be my suggestion.

thanks guys! will most likely hit up Frontier. Ive been to coal creek once didnt shoot just browsed around, after hearing the latest "incident" there im going to avoid shooting there. I will have to check out Gunnies sometime too. Ive got season tickets to vols so i might as well make my rounds to the gun stores in the area :D

If you are willing to drive a bit outside of Knoxville, Frontier I feel has a pretty decent range. It's a hell of a lot better than Coal Creek, Frontier has lighting and everything. :yuck:

Frontier also has an air filtration system that works.

There is an outdoor range in Norris Tennessee. Its $20 a day though, however you can get a 1 year membership for just $40. They give you a key and you can use when you want, (during the hours it is open). I did my qualifications for my armed security officer training there. They have 2 pistol ranges and the rifle range goes out to a couple hundred yards. There are several tactical classes that are taught out there by JWS Tactical. When I did my armed guard registration Josh let us qualify and then taught us some tactical techniques to use with the handgun. Great class enjoyed it thoroughly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't really have official name AFAIK. Referred to as "Norris Watershed Range" or just "Norris Rifle Range".

Handled through Norris PD. Range is about 3 miles out of town on Upper Clear Creek Rd.

Closed only two weeks out of the year for deer hunts, and this could be one of them, not sure.

Plus one for Frontier... that's my "home" range. Nice active targets, good lighting & ventilation, decent rental selection, and so on.  They're usually pretty busy in there, though, especially in recent months. There are a LOT of folks getting permits right now.... umm, is something going on?
