Springfield EMP 9 Mag Issues

My set up is this: EMP 9mm. 1 round in the chamber and partiallyfull mag in the gun. Loaded with FMJ rounds.

When I go to drop the mag, I hit the mag release button and the partially fullmag drops about 1" and then stops. I have to manually pull the mag out andin doing so, the top round in the mag gets pulled out and drops down throughthe grip.

No other issues with gun performance. This just seems weird to me.

tried all 3 mags, same results. partially loaded mags or fully loaded mags, same result.

When I insert mag and rack the slide to chamber a round, then hit mag releaseit drops about 1" then freezes. I have to pull it out by hand and the nextround in the mag either is shifted forward or comes out all together. Same whenI start with the slide locked back and either press the slide lock lever downor with slide locked back grab the slide and slingshot it forward. any case themag does not eject freely.

after pulling it out, re-seating the top round in the mag then reinsert themag, it will then drop freely out the gun multiple times without issue.

any comments? is there something wrong?

**please note: I have already posted this on Springfield forums and did not really get any feedback.

It sounds like mag spring is too strong. It pushes round up and cambering round moves next round in mag forward. This causes drag of bullet against mag well when you hit mag release and it only drops 1". This is most likely why it happens with partial or full mag. Maybe order reduce tension mag spring or regular spring and shorten slightly. Good luck.

we have never had that issue on the EMP, what Tim said maybe correct, but are you 100% sure that your grip is not slowing or stopping mag. it would not take but just a touch.

when the wife was shooting 9mm 1911 full size before good 10 round mags came out, she was using 10 round 38 super mags and in idpa even 1 round in the mag it would fall/come out of the mag inside the grip but was never a issue and we did not worry about it.

but the EMP takes EMP mags sooo, we have about 10 of them and that does that.

Realize this is an older thread, but I had a similar problem with my EMP and came up with a solution.

I put a set of VZ Grips and some of their grip screws on my piece.  I noticed that the mag was not dropping freely.  As I was looking around my gun I noticed one of the grip screws was protruding farther out that the rest.  I sanded it down and the mags now drop freely.

As for the round unseating, I would assume that is a stiff mag spring.

Just thought I'd share my results, hope yours is well.
