Will keep an eye out for them then, but they definitely wouldn't do for my normal purchases because of the $20 charge on transactions under $10k. Usually we buy 4-5 bars a month and that would be spot price +$4 - $5 and shipping, and most of the local places will do spot +$2 for cash

Thanks for the link, definitely want to get one of those as long as the price is reasonable

Hi Sam1

Are there local places around Nashville that don't charge sales tax? Am ignorant whether the law demands paying sales tax. Called a local store in chatt that buys/sells metals and they were under the impression they have to charge sales tax and I said heck with buying in TN if I have to pay sales tax. That local store seems to pay more attention to rare coins than bullion but it claims to stock and sell both. Maybe there is legal sales tax diff between "buying a rare coin to collect" versus "buying bullion instead of deposit to a bank savings account." Dunno.

A few months ago wife got old enough and transferred her IRA from work to a local huckster. Wife has known him and his dad many years. They've had the same investment biz the same place for decades and they ain't gone to jail yet. Then again Bernie Madeoff walked free on the streets a long dern time. Maybe they are no more likely to lose or steal her money than the federal gov. Who can you trust with money? The Gov? A bank? The Federal Reserve? HaHa funny joke. :)

So anyway the fella told me his partners at the downtown office also deal with precious metals investments and I can buy bullion from them tax free but haven't called those guys to ask about it. Wife's friend may not know the details, ifs, ands and buts if he doesn't directly deal with metals. Need to call and find out one way or t'other. Also find out whether they are so "big time" they don't have time to talk to you unless you want to buy a semi truck load of palladium or whatever. :)

(disclaimer) There *might* be a few places I've heard about from a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that heard a story way back.

If you pay with cash sometimes they will ask you if you want a receipt and that usually determines if you pay taxes or not.

TN collects sales tax on coins and precious metals. GA does not. TN also requires use tax be paid if purchased outside the state and brought into the state.

Thanks Sam1 and signtnman. Didn't know that. If the price ever dips enough and I buy any more metals from out of state will make a note that I should send TN their tax money on the transaction.

Just go through Amazon; they are going to start collecting it for TN soon and then you won't have to worry about it. :)
