A buddy of mine was told by a South Carolina state trooper that even though he had a permit his gun and ammo had to be separated in his vehicle. I call BS. What is the law there?

Doesn't matter where your permit is from in SC. It's legal to carry a loaded handgun (if not a felon, etc) in your car's glovebox, and I believe console or other such container. So yeah, once again we have another LEO enforcing the law who doesn't know the law (that always works out well.) The sad part is that most of these laws are easy to remember and these LEO's should be updated on this info every few months if it changes.

That's true but where did you see that the weapon was in a locked glovebox?

They have a wierd law where it has to be on your person or in a glove box or console with a permit. Can't have it on the seat or somewhere else...why, I have no idea. Don't quote me word for word on this, look it up yourself...it's been a while since I've had a reason to go to SC...lol
