Sharia in Tennessee?

Anybody else see this? Gov Haslam appoints Samar Ali, an Islamist and professional facilitator in Sharia Compliant Finance, to head the international Division of the TN Economic and Community Development Council. I know one appointment doesn't mean too much, but her speciality seems to be Shariah compliance. Boy, we need that.

Based on her previous profession, understanding Sharia compliant finance is a necessity. She worked in Abu Dhabi, UAE as a corporate lawyer. As far as I know, in the UAE the only court that falls under Sharia is family court (divorces, custody, alimony). I'm not certain that all businesses there have to be Sharia finance compliant by law, but many of those corporations are involved with other nations within the Gulf region that are. Sharia law is nothing more than describing Biblical laws. Remember how much stuff there is in the Old Testament regarding financial guidance by God in repect to loans and such? Well, much is the same in the Quran. The only difference is some countries still abide by it, while places like the US made very clear the separation between church and state, even though there are close similarities between some of our laws and those outlined in the Old Testament. This has no bearing on her current job.

Haslam, it turns out, is a dhimmi. I've got no problem with anyone worshiping whatever they want, but when you start trying to bring religious law into the courtroom... well that's a step too far.

Who is bringing religious law into a courtroom? When/where did this happen?

Religious law is already in the courtroom. It's where we get our laws about right and wrong. We can take the ten commandments off the wall, but there is no denying where the foundation of our laws came from.

In part. You'd also have to go further back to the Hammurabic codes.

People need to stop being afraid of religion. Like it or not, since the dawn of modern civilization, and even pre-modern civilization, faith has made its way into societal laws and traditions. Even the Deism from our Founding Fathers has permeated our laws.

Since she is in the International Division of the TN Economic and Community Development Council, it would seem her background in Shariah compliant business is relevant to her current job.

I'm not afraid of "religion", Islam or any other. I do detest, rebuke and will actively oppose any religion or philosophy, that promotes the death and destruction of any who don't practice their particular brand of religion/philosophy.

If doing business with an entity based in a Muslim country under Sharia restrictions, or a company that adheres to Sharia requirements in regard to financing I guess. I'm not big on my Sharia financial knowledge, but I know usury isn't cool so they must have the lowest rates around!

Regardless of what you may think about Sharia, Haslam appointed someone because of some political angle.

I don't trust him much, at all. Has he spoken up about Obamacare like other governors are beginning to? Has

he spoken out about much of anything, lately? I'm only happy it is him as governor and not the other guy, but

that is only because of the other guy was a total idiot. Haslam isn't what I would call conservative.

Probably. Everything a politician does serves some political angle. I'm certain that the method of wiping his a$$ is the result of a focus group study. Politicians aren't people; they are like a tube of Play Dough... whoever owns them gets to mold them as they see fit. I've read her resume. She is certainly qualified for the job. However, I'm not so naive to believe that there wasn't a political purpose behind hiring her.

It's no doubt they all do that, but in his case, his being silent on other issues that other leaders in other states

are sounding off on, I wish he would show some character on issues other than probably minor appointments.

It also begs to watch what else is not being brought up. Things always seem to start out small and incrementally,

then finally start to show their ugliness. I hope he isn't some damned progressive.

Haslam is no conservative nor is he a friend of firearm owners (although he'll claim he is both). :)

From my research, I tend to agree with your assessment. Good post.
