Why do I think ammo is a bit rare?

Lately I have been taking my wife to the range allot and well we have been burning thought .22 cal. With both of us putting lead down range. her about as fast as she can load it. My supply of .22 has dropped allot. The last time or 2 that I have went to Walmart they had like 1 box of 100 round CCI, 1 box of 225 round Remington. 1 or 2 boxes of stringers. They didn't have any of the Winchester 500 or so round boxes. It felt almost like they where not saying they had a limit of 1 box per person but felt like they where only going to show they had 1 box of everything I ask for. Other stuff looked thin to me but I didn't need any of the other stuff. I know as it has been going, every pay day I am going to buy a bit of ammo if I need it or not. With 2 shooters in the family I know it will be used.

It may be just your store or dept. manager not doing a good job. Walmart in Maryville (I believe) just last week had tons of CCI and other brands. But I have noticed shortages on 45 and 9mm at wally world. It appears they only get a few boxes in, not cases.

I ask the girl tonight when they got their ammo shipments indicating I would come back and buy more on a good day, she said daily but just want ever is on the truck.

I was buying the Winchester Bulk from Academy when I was still in Knoxville.

I stocked up a fair bit, it was cheaper than anything Walmart had, and all of my .22s love it.

I have inquired at my Wally World about the 5.56 in ammo cans; my sporting goods person told me the same thing. Best I can tell, the truck shows up and what is on it is on it. The employees have no idea until they open the pallets and put it up.

I think it's the OR Walmart as well. The one on Clinton Hwy (Knoxville) always has crap tons of 22 in stock. At least 20 boxes of both the Winchester 555 round boxes and the Federal 550 round boxes. There's a bunch of other 22 as well. However, the things they can't ever keep in stock are the 100 round boxes of Federal 9mm and 40. However, a bunch of times, they just don't refill the shelf and keep the spare boxes under the counter so you have to ask for them.

I haven't seen the 5.56 in a long time. I saw it only at the Walmart by East Town Mall but when I actually went back to buy it, they were all gone.

This pretty much sumes it up, IMO. Different stores carry more or less of items, especially

gun related items. Near me, Lebanon does fairly well with guns & ammo, etc. Gallatin, not

so much. Tha manager is the key here, either part of the solution, or part of the problem.

Associates usually haven't a clue what to expect.

This is right. I haven't been there in a while, but surprisingly, the Wal Mart in Rivergate always seemed to have more ammo than any other in the area. I don't know if that is still the case. The bad part is you probably need plenty of ammo for your gun BEFORE entering the Wal Mart at Rivergate.

I don't know about it being just the one store and I've been wondering along the lines of what the OP was thinking. I have been looking at WM for Federal bulk packs as that is what all of my .22s seem to shoot best of the bulk pack stuff. I have checked at least three Walmart locations (Lenoir City, Madisonville and the one in Maryville on 411) and none of them have any Federal. The LC Walmart had some Winchester but I think they were sold out of those the last time I was in there, too. The Madisonville one had some Winchester in the 555 and 333 round boxes but I'd really rather have the Federal. The Winchester does better than Remington Golden Crap but not as well as the Federal.

In fact, when I checked the one in Maryville on Sunday, they had no bulk pack .22 at all and barely had any of the smaller packs. Strangely, they seemed to have plenty of centerfire ammo - even Federal Hydroshoks in some calibers - but the .22 (both LR and WMR) was scarce.

If you get a chance to make a trip to Knoxville, the WM's in Turkey Creek and Gallagher View had the 550 round packs of Federal when I stopped by on Friday and Sunday.

I asked about this as well and what I was told is that the local warehouse takes whatever they get in, breaks it up among those stores they supply, and then send it along its way.

Walmart seems to be the cheapest local place for ammo but there's just a poor supply of it. Lately I've just been trying to find good deals online and buy in bulk.

As far as .22 goes, I typically just get one of the deals Cabela's will run before I run out. Right now, through October 1st, if you're one of their club visa members you get free shipping on anything as long as you use the card. Makes ammo deals even better :) Just to throw it in here's another .22 ammo deal they're running currently if you're interested.

Cool and thanks for the info. My place of work is on Lovell Road so I may have to try and stop by Turkey Creek, soon.
