What do you guys think about using a Bersa .380 w/Hollow points as a cc weapon. Be as honest as you can.

Thanks

Inexpensive and reliable. What more could you ask for. You'll get some debate about .380 as a self defense round but I think it's fine for up close and personal.

Look at the CC model. I was very impressed with it.

I bought a Bersa 380 (mdl 383) for my BOSS, years ago.

Very nice shooting, accurate and RELIABLE handgun (after breaking in).

Quality of the Bersa 380 is very good.

Caliber it shoots is easy to recover from recoil.

[Why don't I carry a 380?? Cuz I'm a snob and want a different cartridge. ]

Affordable gun, shoots well. Only real downside is cost of the ammo.

(Psst, it's just a little more than 9mm)

Opinions vary, but I would not hesitate to use one for self defence.

Bersa has been around for a long time.

I'm seriously considering one of these myself as soon as the HCP arrives. I've done alot of research on the net and have not heard a bad thing about them. Fondled one at the store the other day - great feel, awesome DA trigger pull. The price of these things at least around here is going up. Of course all guns seem to be expensive in ET area. Saw alot at gun show couple of weeks ago. May be best place to get.

Great gun for the price. My Dad carries one everyday. My wife has one, and will probably carry it once she gets her permit (she takes the class this Saturday).

I took my class with my Dad's 4 years ago. I really enjoy shooting it. It's recoil is very controllable, definitely better than the Kel-Tec's .380's recoil.

A few of my friends are looking into getting one because of the small size for concealed carry.

In the shorts wearing days, or when I am going into places where I'm not allowed to carry.....Did I say that outloud..... , I will carry my wife's Bersa "Mexican Style".

When she starts carrying it fulltime, I will be buying another one for me, unless someone wants to get rid of their .38 special j frame.

I don't think you can buy a better quality gun in the same price range.

I have one. It was my first handgun, given to me by my dad. I have never carried it and likely never will.

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Largish for the caliber

Pros

  • Perfect for throwing into the river if I ever had to
  • Wouldn't miss it if it were confiscated as evidence

That's about it.

If you want to carry a .380 there are better guns for the task. P3AT, LCP, etc. If you want to carry something as heavy as the Bersa .380, get a polymer 9mm and have more capacity and a better defensive round at your disposal.

Tungsten is yours a Thunder? I take it yours isnt a CC? To me the Concealed Carry is a nice quality handgun that weighs in about the same as my 638 J-Frame...I actually almost bought it over the J-frame but decided I needed a wheel gun.

Great gun...would bet my life on it no problem. Check out gunblast.com's archives for several reviews.

It is a bit heavy, but the CCW version is my #2 pick for packing.

I've had a couple of them over the years, they work fine, think of it as a poor mans PPK, that will feed, fire, and eject.

Since I carry a Glock, All I ever look for is Feed, Fire, Eject, and repeat.

Nice BUG. Price reflects that you're buying a pistol, instead of a name. .380 is nothing to write home about, but beats the heck out of nothing. Never heard of any problems with it.

All the Bersas that I've seen will feed, fire, and eject.

I can't say that about several PPKs that I've seen (and Bersas don't have that nasty habit of eating hands either).

Talk to me, Tungsten. Hey, you've got that very nice S&W now (sure, sure, it's the wifes', riiight...).

OP, I wouldn't go with hollow points - the big downside of the .380 is lack of penetration. Go with as much bullet weight as you can.

Everything I have read or seen gives the Bersa a good reccomendation. There were a couple people using them in the HCP class I attended and they all seemed to function well. A well placed .380 beats a sharp stick in the eye any day.

There's nothing wrong with a Bersa, but .380 hollowpoints don't penetrate worth a d@mn. FMJ is the ticket.

I have looked at these guns a lot recently because I want something smaller and thinner than my .45 with the warmer weather coming. I had not heard a bad word about them, until this thread, but have heard a lot of good. The clerk at one of the local gunshops said they have had one as a rental gun for a long time and have only had one problem with it. I have also heard they are more reliable than the PPK since they were designed with hollow points in mind. Given some of the statements above, with respect to FMJ verse HP, that may be less important.

I have one that is my daily carry gun. It is the standard thunder .380. I am using federal hydroshocks in it. The only downside that I see is the limited capacity (7+1) otherwise I absolutely love the little gun.

I had one, traded it off because it wasn't a 40 S&W. Mine was a Bersa Thunder .380 and work great from day one. Mags are expensive but they worked, it would shoot any and everything, I even reloaded for it and never had a malfunction. Smallest platform I could hold comfortably.

My primary cw is a Beretta 9000 40. I own a Bersa 380 dou tone, and a conceled carry 380. Both are excellent guns. My wife carrys the dou tone as a purse gun. If your looking for a bug and want a Bersa look at the 9mm ultra compact 10 shot. Same price, cheaper ammo, it is the better gun. I have one on order.
