Mini 14 Load

Recommended Posts

I'm down to about a two inch group with my mini loading Sierra 55 grain SPBTs. I understand I may not get much better than that until I bed the action. I would appreciate any guidance in what to try loading next. I believe the Ranch Rifle I have has a 1 in 9 twist barrel. Should I go up to a 60 or 62 grain bullet, or a 52gr next?

You can run 62g stuff no problem in a 1/9. Its a common weight, I'd go up to that and see what happens.

2 inch group at 100 yards?

That's really good for a mini 14.

Depends on how old it is. Mine is a newer one, and does better than that with plain ole 55 grain factory stuff.

I saw a fellow shoot a clover leaf with an older one once; prone, at 100 yards. I do not know what he'd done to it, but I do intend to find out next time I see him. A Mini CAN be made to shoot. I've improved mine a lot already with a trigger job and retorqueing the gas block screws. I intend to lap the gas block to the barrel and bed the action at some point. Right now, I'd like to see how well it'll do without any further mods.
