Anyone own one of these? The tactical version, not the original. I shot one at the range, and I really want one. Reviews online are great, just wanting to get the opinions of anyone with personal experience. Thanks!

I had the original. I ended up trading it for a used TS stocked model at my favorite LGS. I had thought about ordering a TS stock to put on my old one, instead, but with my trade the difference I paid wouldn't have covered the price of a TS stock with shipping, etc. - not to mention it saved me the aggravation of swapping the stocks out, which I have read can be a PITA.

Honestly, I liked the old one just fine. The only reason I even wanted a TS stock was so I could mount a laser/light combo easily. They are/were both great shooters. I do wish there were factory or reliable aftermarket high cap mags for them but ten rounds isn't too bad, I guess. One of these days I'll get around to ordering one of the factory mag holders that mounts on the skeletonized buttstock. Then I could at least have 30 rounds on board and ready to go.

I used to own the original 995. I bought a 995TS and sold the original. Both were fun and accurate. Like everyone else, my only complaint is the 10 round mag capacity.

Fun little rifles at a good price! Ugly as sin, but fun! They are decently accurate out to 100 yds. You can definitely hit a man sized target with one at that range.

Mine is so reliable I use it for home defense with 147gr JHPs (It has the power of a 357 magnum.) It has never failed to fire.

Had one for years, sold it to a local guy who sold it to a local guy who sold it back to me. Brutally reliable and very accurate. Its an ugly gun but it works flawlessly

I have been looking for something in 9mm just for shtf situations and you may have just sold me on this. I have been semi prepping for the worst in trying to get a collection of the most popular calibers and one day realized that I don't support the most popular caliber of all 9mm. If any of you are in the west maybe we could get together and shoot. It would be greatly appreciated.

If only it could take my Beretta mags. That would be awesome.

You can get a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm that takes Beretta mags.

Sorry, I live in the East so I can't really help you there. I did want to say, though, that if you just want to have the caliber 'covered' that the 995 would probably be a good choice and you might want to consider a Hi-Point 9mm pistol or two to go with it. From what I have heard, the 9mm pistol mags won't work with the carbine because of the baseplate or something but I've heard that the carbine mags will work in the pistols just fine. Some folks - even those who appreciate the carbines - don't have a very high opinion of their pistols but from my limited exposure to them they would make some pretty good 'stash guns' just to have a handgun in 9mm if you don't already have a pistol so chambered.

I'll pass on the pistols, but a tactical rifle for 300 bucks-ish. That could be decked out for just a bit more, that is reliable, I can't pass up. I'll be picking one up soon!

Yeah, but those are not the easiest things to find at a good price.

Well worth up to $500 in my opinion, if you have matching pistol. Maybe even if you don't.

I have the Beretta config, and those 30 round Beretta mags are really sweet in the Sub2000.

The HI-Point looks nice but the sub2000 just went on my want list (Glock 19 config).

Get both, I did. :)

Seriously, I don't plan on ever letting my Planet of the Apes rifle go.

I actually really like the look of the hi point, when it's dressed with accessories, the Kel Tec, not so much. Not to mention that I HATE Kel Tec, and will never own another.

I've posted very long winded endorsements for HiPoint - and especially the HiPoint 995TS - in the past. To sum up: They're great and everyone should own one. haha!

I've got thousands and thousands of rounds through mine (my wife's actually) and it remains our go-to "bump in the night" gun for her. Meanwhile, I love it for the range. She routinely and reliably makes 100 yard headshots on her zombie clown targets up at CHMR with the factory peep site.

The only time we've ever had a problem with it was with the ejector. I got mad until someone told me about their warranty. When I called, their customer service blew me away. They replaced everything but the barrel and receiver - and sent me two free mags for my trouble. And the tech that did the work called me personally before he started the work to see what all was going wrong with it and then called after I got it back to make sure it was all sorted out and talk to me about what ammo I should use at the range to get the best accuracy out of it (CCI - he was right).

I'm going to be getting a second one soon (so my wife and I don't have to fight over it at the range) - maybe in .45? - and probably one of their 9mm handguns to fill the role of "range toy" when I don't feel like throwing .45 calibre dollar bills downrange.

Fun gun, great customer service and lifetime warranty? Why don't you have one yet?

Convincing the wife that I "need" to spend the money on one is the only reason.

Another handgun becomes a safe queen but the carbine would be very useful in home defense. Plus something fun to play with. Now just have to sell my wife on the idea.

Well, you could always go with, "I've been thinking about this Beretta Storm 9mm carbine. I like the way they look but they cost around $800. For that price I could almost do an AR. Of course, I guess I could get a Hi-Point 9mm carbine for around $300 and make that work but that $800 Beretta is awfully nice..."

That way, it isn't about spending $300 for the Hi-Point but is instead about not spending $800 for something else.
