Has anyone shipped a gun that you owned to a FFL dealer in another state? what did it cost? (I know UPS can do it, will the United States Postal service do it?

I have shipped several long guns through the USPS. They ran between $20-$30 IIRC. You can not ship handguns through the USPS. HAve to go with FedEx or UPS.

I shipped a Marlin 39A to Marlin via US Postal Service for $14 last Thursday. If you are shipping to another person in the state...this is the only way $$$wise I would do it.

With handguns it might be cheaper to take to local FFL as they can use cheaper methods of shipping.

I used the box that it came in from the factory.

they measured the box, the box is larger than the factory

gun case. It has some foam padding in it.

I figured $30

UPS charged me $63 from Nashville, TN to Colgate, Ok

(overnight shipping is required)

Yes, I know

The box to me was not oversized but it is air freight

I did have insurance on it but still

When selling and shipping ask for more money

I will use their box next time without padding, Still it would have been over

$35 plus

fuel surcharge $13.44 and

insurance $4.50

Maybe some of the FFL folks can chime in on a good estimate if you went through them rather than direct via carrier for a pistol. If they charge $25 for the transfer + Shipping cost...I am pretty sure that 9 / 10 it would still be cheaper than doing it yourself.
