Heading out on a trip two years in the planning. Ive been to most of these locations at one time or another, some of them many times, but not all within a 2 week period. Will be headed up to Shiloh Thursday Morning. Then to Chattanooga. Then on up to stay with my cousin 10 miles from Gettysburg. Day one we are going gun shopping, Im buying him an 870 Tacktical for his Bday. Day 2 its York, Gettysburg and Antietam and if time permits, Harpers Ferry. Next 3 days will be going through the Shenendoah Valley, hitting 22 battlefields and skirmish sites as well as visiting Stonewalls arm and Grave. The next Monday we will be spending all day at The Museum Of The Confederacy, I sent in my request to go over their photo library (Its by written request only), and will be looking for pics of my grandfathers unit, the 61st Georgia. Following day down to Opeqoun Creek (Battle of 3rd WInchester), where my 3rd Great Grandfather was captured and the next day on up to Point Lookout POW Camp where he was a POW. Will leave later in the week, coming down the east side of Va., stopping off at some sites and VMI and stopping in Dayton, TN for the night, next day is Chattanooga, Chikamauga and Lookout Mountan, then on home and will spend a couple of days doing Battle Of Raymond, Champions Hill and Vicksburg. (All within 25 miles of my house).

I have an ancestor who died at the Battle of Peachtree not far outside Atlanta. One Alexander Wynn. It was pretty tough to figure out exactly which one he was, as there were 3 Alexander Wynns at the Battle of Peachtree in his unit. One of the TN units I can't remember which.

That sounds like fun! Post some reports and photos if you can. My Great Grandfather was Private Isaac Mason, Lumsden's Battery, 2nd Alabama Light Artillery, Army of Tennessee. He fought from Perryville KY to Spanich Fort. He missed Shiloh.

Cool! I used to be big time into the whole Civil War thing, (I did several reports on it back when I was in schooI) always found it to be the most interesting subject in American History. That was many moons ago though and I've not looked into the subject for quite some time, I know I've forgotten a lot of the details that I used to know.

And now I live right smack dab in the middle of one of the most historical areas of that time period and I've yet to visit any of the sites around here. I really need to remedy that here sometime soon...
