I have a work accociate that had this rifle and was wondering what it was.

agreed, from the looks.

The triangular thing on the stock is not part of it, I think it was added by the GI or bubba who owned it.

It also looks like the safety or something has had a bolt knob welded onto it.

Both of those things seem off to me, but i am no expert. The rest of it looks right.

I don't think anybody can tell you much beyond that it's a modified Mannlicher Carcano 1891/38 carbine.

It's a Carcano for sure. M91/24 made by Terni.

Bubba's pistol grip and second bolt knob are not original.

6.5 Carcano, I hunted with one for 2 years and took half a dozen does with it. IIRC isnt that also what took Kennedy out?

Any idea why it has two bolt handles?

It looks like someone with more time than sense added it to the safety? It may be a rig for and older or handicapped shooter or something? Thought it would look cool? For the same reason that someone mounted a chopped up mosin in a plastic tactical stock?
