Any problems with Glock Model 21 .45 ACP?

Normally, I don't have any issues with my Glock pistols. However, I recently purchased a Model 21 .45. The spent brass is ejecting straight back into my face. Several hit me in the forehead, safety glasses, etc. Some went down my shirt. This started from the first round. No other pistol is doing this. I asked the range safety officer if this was a reported problem. Noone had reported it at the range. Has anyone heard of this anomaly? Perhaps there is a problem with the extractor or something of that nature. Any advise or recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks.

If it was a 1911. I have had quite a few that will throw brass in your face.

On a Glock 21 this is the first I have heard of it. There are some Glock Armorers on here

that will chime in shortly for sure.

This is the first I've heard of a G21 doing this, but I have heard about this issue from others. I have two Glocks, a G19 and a G22. My G22 is fine, no issues like this but my G19 does the same thing as yours. Someone had told me it was an extractor issue and that there's an older extractor that apparently mine has that is causing this problem. They apparently had an extra new one and were supposed to send it to me but I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't say for sure if that will fix the problem. You might want to contact Glock and see if they will send you a new one.

Been carrying/shooting a G21 for 13 years, never had any issues like that. I would suspect that the ejector is bent or the extractor claw is not true

just me but it but let someone else that you know for sure is a good shooter, with strong hands and proper grip and see what happens, it kinda sounds like you maybe limp wristing a little. just me from what learned over time, teaching the wife and kids. also i my 2 cents the 21 is the most prone to stove pipe mine did it a lot and still did it to the guy i sold it too! but he got so good clearing the stove pipe unless you watching very closely you would never know.

From the GLOCK Armorer's manual the probable causes for erratic ejection or failure to eject are listed as:

1) Broken or damaged ejector - (replace ejector)

2) Underpowered ammunition - (Change ammunition)

3) Dirty chamber - (Clean the chamber)

4) Shooting with an unlocked wrist - (lock shooting hand wrist)

5) Lack of lubrication - (lubricate your firearm properly)

6) Dirty gun - (Clean your firearm properly)

If I were you I would try #2 - #6. If you are still having the problem after that I would contact someone in warranty repair at GLOCK (770) 432-1202. If they do not help resolve the problem let me know and I will contact them on your behalf.

if you have an arkansas stone and a small fine file you can work the extractor a little. (i have not done this myself but after a good bit of reading at the glock forum i found this solution).

also this seems to be a pretty common problem.

"1} Cleaned up the extractor claw a bit to allow better bite of the case.

2} Polished both sides of the extractor.

3} Took some material off the shoulder/step whatever you call it. Don't ask how much. Due to the angles it was not easy to gauge the start dimension with my calipers. I aimed at Dave's nominal .005". I know I took some material off. Not alot. "

if it was me i would not file the shoulder/step that he mentions and only polish up both sides of the extractor this would free it up to move smoother. If this doesnt work you can always get another one for $15

For what its worth I am certified glock armorer, but can't say I learned much new at the coarse becasue the Glock is so simple. I have owned several 21s and modified several for other folks including some acraglas reinforcement for a friend who has a .50 GI upper he shoots on one of his 21s.

All the suggestions are good ones and should be considered. Here is what I always consider when casings from a Glock hit me in the head, cause I know my Glocks are properly operational, lubed and have a good grip.

#1 is ammo.

#2 and closely tied to #1 is recoil spring strength. Tune your recoil spring to your predominant range ammo. I would recommend to tune your range ammo selection to your carry ammo selection if you only have one carry Glock that doubles as your range gun. Then tune your recoil spring to both.

Having said that I only use stock recoil springs in my carry Glock 9mms and always carry Corbon 115+P in my carry guns.

21s run best on full power ammo.Sounds like what you were shooting was a little weak.I've shot reloads im my 21 that were .5 grain below max and had the brass just barely eject and bounce off the rear of the slide
