Hcp influence on not drinking

It is simpler to never drink when away from home. No possibility of DUI or Carry While Intoxicated or whatever. An evening out doesn't even sound like fun and haven't gone out recreationally for many years, though it is occasionally fun to play music in bars.

Amen to that. I can lock myself in my workshop, get slobbering stupid and no one can say a thing. Well, maybe the wife but no one else.

Not sure if it was the HCP or not. I do prefer to be aware of my surroundings and in contol of myself, so drinking lost its appeal not long after it became legal for me  I do wonder if that same mentality is part of it for others (?). I like the taste of wine and get into that now and then, but actually having enough to have any effect at all, its been years --- if what my wife gets is "one glass" or "one drink", then I get 1/3 a glass once in a while tops.

Someone breaks into my house, I will deal with the fact that I had something to drink later, and be glad that I am able to deal with it....later.

Oh, going out to have a drink with friends, no carry.

I carry, I believe in the right to carry, I believe in being prepared, however, I am not going to become a slave to it. If I want to do something and I can't carry in that particular place due to the law, I won't carry.

I feel the same way

Been years since taking a drink away from home. Before that, had long ago got in the habit that if one does take a drink away from home then don't drink for at least two hours before driving and drink no more than 1 shot per hour. A healthy liver supposedly metabolizes in the ballpark of half ounce alcohol per hour. In theory, one wouldn't put many sheets to the wind consuming one NORMAL drink per hour. Oughtn't even properly unfurl the mainsail under that load.

OTOH a guy consuming 2 or more drinks per hour-- By the end of the evening-- Mainsail, topsail, topgallant, spanker, quarterdeck and multiple jibs, all creaking under a gale-force wind. :)

Hi sL1k. Agreed, criminal waste of electrons on overly ornate language. I like your "Fit Shaced". That's a good turn of phrase. Or staying with the "sheets to the wind" metaphor, maybe "Ship Faced"? :)

Same thing for me. Drinking to get drunk has lost it's appeal but I do like an occasional glass of wine or beer with my steak. I quit drinking for the most part and in public for other reasons mainly but getting my HCP reinforced my opinions on it.

Well I drink less then then I used to. That may have had some impact as I like to carry.

your avatar makes this somewhat funny. Anyway, i agree. If i can carry, i will. If i HAVE to go somewhere (i.e.--my wife picks) where carry is prohibited, i will have a beer or two. More than that, she drives/carries.

But, if we go out and i decided to have a drink and she doesn't--my weapon can go in her purse without issue. I guess its one of the perks to having a wife with a carry permit.

I got my HCP last year very shortly after I turned 21, and when the decision came to drink at a restaurant or at some other places, I usually chose to carry for the reason that I'd rather feel safe knowing I was armed than buzzed on some alcohol. Being the kind of guy that doesn't even drive after having one beer, it soon became a non-issue to not drink when I went out to eat or to a friend's party since I would have to drive and did not want to drink and drive.

To this day, 99 times out of 100 I will choose carrying over cocktails. It may be hard being an age where drinking is a very common social activity, and I have gotten my fair share of, "Why aren't you drinking?" questions, but I'd much rather be exercising my right and saving money and safe the drinks for another time.

I get the "why aren't you drinking?" questions too and turn down a lot of free drinks from friends, and when they ask I say "can't drink I'm packing".

Thought it was quite high. This guy must have made quite a scene or something to get slammed that hard; no other charges like resisting or assault on officer or something?

- OS

No, but I don't think folks get arrested for that in Clarksville often. Usually it's unlawful possession which is usually set at $500. There were no other charges on this cat at the time, but perhaps he made a scene which is what led to the popo showing up in the first place. So possession while drunk is only a misdemeanor?

Yeah, class A, that's why I asked about bond for DUI, which is also class A.

Ironically, or not, it's also a Class A to have one sip while packing if you're in place open to public. But not against the law at all to drink and pack elsewhere, unless you then become "under the influence".

I just turn down the drink and say, "Nah, I'm good." Almost none of my friends know I have my HCP, and fewer know I always carry. Don't want to open the floor to the follow up questions - You have a gun? Whaat?? Can I see it? Guys, Patrick has a gun!

I'd rather just kindly decline and not out myself.

Patrick... you need to come out of the carrying closet... (j/k i can completely understand why you do not)

I am the exact opposite, I do not open carry but I am open about carrying, it actually gives me an opportunity to discuss it, I encourage all my friends and family to get a permit. I have not encountered a "can i see it" yet, i wouldnt produce it either, especially in the middle of a bar or restaurant.

I have nothing against a good beer or Irish Car Bomb. I just prefer to do so at home with friends instead of out.

A Dos Equis with my burrito at a restaurant isn't worth disarming myself.

Besides, I'm a cheap bastard anyway...I won't even order a Coke or Tea.

HI Pattywack. Hope this doesn't sound patronizing-- Compliments to a young guy with a mature attitude!

Wife is a purist who drinks only water. Lately she has me convinced. Even with water we must remain vigilant. Only distilled water. Or rainwater. And only pure grain alcohol. Human beings need fresh pure water to replenish precious bodily fluids.
