CCP Mess

Ok guys and gals let me know if you have ever heard of this.

On 5-12-08 i received a letter in the mail from the Tn Dept Of Safety telling me that my CCP was invalid because i did not fire off the pre selected amount of rounds to cover my exam and that i needed to contact the TDOS at my earliest convenience . Well i called today and they said that i was 20 rounds shy of completing my exam and that i needed to Take the exam over again to be ably to legally carry my Fire arm on my Person. Now i have to go spend more money to retake a test i have already completed and have been carrying my weapon for over a year. This is bull.

I spoke to the shop were i recieved my training and they say im out of luck and need to pay again, They shall remain nameless.

First of all what this seems to be is a school cutting the class too short. A class member probably complained and they investigated the class roster and determined the class wasnt done correctly. If a State person had come thru the class they shouldnt have let certificates be issued. If they were short with the range time I'll bet they cut corners elsewhere. I mean IMHO its inexcusable. When its all said and done I'll bet you actually didnt receive the proper training, which means from a liability standpoint you could be screwed if you ever have to go to court. At this point I wouldnt want the class from these clowns... I mean the paper is basically worthless. I'd let everyone know who did this too... as a responsible gun owner and citizen... do you want other people to get stuck in the same situation your in?

Heres what I'd do.

First of all be calm cool collective and polite... Then I'd take a COPY of that state letter down to the school and tell the owner you want a FULL REFUND... If he refuses I'd tell him you are not only going to sue him, but you will also call the media and the Nashville Better Business Bureau.

I'd then take the class from a responsible instructor. I mean your really going to have too. There are plenty out there, please dont let one bad apple spoil the whole tree.

If we can help in any way please let me know. If you like PM me and I can get you in touch with someone at the State that can maybe be a little more helpful.

oh H*** no. THEY screwed the pooch...they need to make it right without any money leaving your hand. If not...then release the hounds. If they certified you then they should take the responsibility of making this right. if not....then you have no obligation to keep their name "off the record".

The school should WANT to make this right to keep their name and reputation. If not..then it's up to you to show them the error of their ways. Who's the guy that Channel 5 that does the anti gun stories...he'd LOVE it; but probably wouldn't touch the story until some piece of pro gun legislation was up for a vote.

not sure we want the media involved, they would just use it aganst us by saying "untrained HCP holders running the streets" or some BS like that...

I think it would be better to have 1000+member of "A very popular internet site for TN" tell them they suck, just like that Uselton arms idiot....what way when someone googles them, they get the thread.

Sounds like good advice.

Doesn't matter what we want. The guy got ripped and any legal way he can ruin the reputation of the place where he received training (or didn't receive it) is fine by me.

That's a double edged sword you keep swinging around, you know. Sooner or later you will goof up and someone will use "any legal way [they] can ruin your reputation" and stick it really far up a place you don't wash well. When that happens, you're going to understand why sometimes it's nice when people choose to show a little lenience.

:D

In the meantime, suppose this instructor just screwed up on their paperwork or something. Let's not lynch them just yet. More details would be nice.

Dang....

If the instructor/school is willing to refund or readminister the class at no cost to you, that would be the best option.

Aside from that, take the course elsewhere, know your requirements beforehand, and if it comes to it you should be able to easily get recompensed for the first class and the trouble to resolve the issue... or, you could settle for posting the name of the school for all to see :D

Something just doesnt seem right here. Not disputing your word, but I made a few phone calls. I spoke with two persons at the Handgun Permit office that would absolutly know if something like this had went down.... they hadnt heard anything about it... I mean they didnt have a clue. They would have been the actual persons that would have pulled the trigger on an issue like this. Are you absolutely sure your talking about your Civilian Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit, and not a Armed Security Guard Qualifications License???

Can you scan the letter... show us exactly what it said? Until then I hate to rush to judgment when all the facts arent in. You can feel free to PM me if you like and I will do anything I can to help. :D

The OP said, "I spoke to the shop were i received my training and they say im out of luck and need to pay again."

The shop has already given their answer. It's not as if they don't know the situation. So what should he do? IMO, He has few choices.

1. He needs to immediately take a HCP class at a reputable place. If he could before the 10 day period when he has to turn in his HCP. My thoughts are maybe he could fax the TDOS and they would look at the new info and reinstate his permit.

2. If he wants his money back he is going to have to sue the shop where he took his class. They already said no to a refund.

3. If he wants to let other people know about this shop and what they did to him he should post their info on every gun web site and call newspapers (city paper and Tennessean) and television news outlets.

Whoever is the first person to answer the phone at place of business is not necessarily the one that can actually speak for, or make policy for that business.

IMO, a business is responsible for their employees. The employee who answers the phone represents the company. If they can't answer a question they should take a message or get someone on the phone who can answer the question at hand.

It will be several days until this guy will be able to contact TDOS anyway because they are in the process of moving. :D

they have been in the process of moving for a while now, just because they arent picking up the phone for the public doesnt mean some of us cant get him in touch with a person in the know to help him... if his story is legit. Until then I think everyone envolved deserves the benifit of a doubt.

I know I can help him, but I have to have all the facts first.

I just called and they picked up the phone. They said Mrs. Persons, the supervisor I have been communicating with can't help until Monday and that all of their files are in boxes. I don't doubt that you may have a different # or know someone higher up but this guy is probably like me and does not know anyone. I've been trying to get my issue resolved before I have to turn in the permit but it is looking like that is not going to happen.

but it doesnt always happen that way. If someone called your house and spoke to your wife, and she didnt quite understand what they were saying... does that mean you were properly notified and her response was the final say so?

Not really, we both received a nearly identical letter and have had our permits revoked.

Sounds like Gun City. If so, that's not the first time I have heard of them providing shoddy service in any area. I'd find another range to shoot at if that were the case.

Good deal. Are you going to be able to get the class done and the revocation problem taken care of before the ten days is up?
