Ok guys and gals let me know if you have ever heard of this.

On 5-12-08 i received a letter in the mail from the Tn Dept Of Safety telling me that my CCP was invalid because i did not fire off the pre selected amount of rounds to cover my exam and that i needed to contact the TDOS at my earliest convenience . Well i called today and they said that i was 20 rounds shy of completing my exam and that i needed to Take the exam over again to be ably to legally carry my Fire arm on my Person. Now i have to go spend more money to retake a test i have already completed and have been carrying my weapon for over a year. This is bull.

I spoke to the shop were i recieved my training and they say im out of luck and need to pay again, They shall remain nameless.

There is a minimum number of rounds that have to be fired with a certain percentage of hits. But I would think any licensed school would know this.

So if they knowingly didn't provide the required training in no way would I pay them again. Do you know if this was just you or did all that took the class at the same time, have the same problem? If this is a common occurrence of this school, they should have their licensed pulled by the state.

But to answer your question...No, I've never heard of this before.

Out of a class of 16 people 4 of us have to do it over again, I dont really understand how they missed us on the amount we fired , unless they got audited by the state or feds.

WOW....that is just wierd...not sure I would use that school again....but wait, you just have to do the shooting part right? or the whole class?

if it is just the shooting, what is the class gonna charge you? I would think 50rds....you only need 48 I think

You know you could save other people a future problem if you would let them know who gave you the course. TGO members do not need to be ripped off.

I have to take the whole class over and the really nice woman (wink) i spoke with at the TDOS said that this is the 1st time this school has had an issue of any kind.

If I went somewhere and took the class and passed and received a certificate then the TDOS said I didn't qualify properly you bet I'd hold the school, class, instructor responsible. That means I'd sue them if they wouldn't let me take the class over again free.

How many rounds do you have to shoot to qualify on a range for an initial TN Handgun Carry Permit? I never took a class in TN (transferred a license from another state) and was just curious.

Im going to stop in there tomorrow and speak with the Owner or Manager to let them know how disappointed i am and that something needs to be done to resolve this issue to the best of my liking. The person i spoke with today did not satisfy me at all.

I'm curious about the letter.

Did they say they revoked your permit? Did they send you paper work to appeal the decision to a court in your county? Do you have ten days to return your permit to them in the mail or to a driver license testing station?

Who did you speak with over there?

I've spoke with a few women at the office over the phone. It is strange because I never speak with a man...

I think Debra is the office supervisor. I think Sarah is in charge of all approving the instructors or schools. For the most part they are all nice though.

I have the option to appeal but according to a friend of mine in the legal field it could take up to 12 months , i have 10 business days from the date of the letter to return my permit to the TDOS or my local DTS or to bring in new paper work showing i have passed my exam. As far as the woman at the TDOS , I think it was just late in the day and i was upset so that could have played a part in me thinking she was being mean. She did appologize for the inconvenience.

I think im just going to take the exam again and let it be done.

Definitely keep us posted.

Maybe the Owner/Manager of the range will be more helpful. Tell them you know of a 1000+ member internet group that will tell people to avoid his place at all cost if it seems like he doesn't want to help.

As far as an appeal....I learned a little something...I was checking because I remember seeing something about 30 days in there. What it is, if you file an appeal, they have 30 daysto set a date for the hearing, but there is no time frame for when the actual hearing has to be. But it sounds like it would be upheld anyway... :D

Mine looked similar to that without the order of protection on it lol

I figured as much.

If you appeal it will cost you whatever the court charges for a suit. Probably around $100. The DA will represent the TDOS in criminal court. It will most likely take a few weeks to get a court date, but it would probably be continued.

I'm holding on to my permit and will turn it in on the 10th day to a local driver testing station and get a receipt. I hope they can resolve my issue without me having to appeal. I've sent a letter and a fax to the TDOS handgun office. I have spoke with Mrs. Persons who is a supervisor. I also faxed them some info because they have a large backlog.

I'd be full hot on the deal. I'm not sure why you feel the need to protect this scumbag of a training center. I'd post their name all over the damn place. The fact that a mistake was made isn't nearly as disturbing as the fact that they would make you pay again, for a mistake made by them.

Can anyone tell me how the Government finds out how many rounds you fired? I'm not sure, but I'd say the training center would have to give the state such information. if that's the case, you'd think they would have realized a mistake long before passing you through the class.

This makes me mad, and it doesn't have anything to do with me.

To answer your question about the number of rounds i believe it is 33 out of 50 that you have to hit. The instructor has to document simply whether you hit 33 or more. He stopped counting on mine when he got to 33 or whatever the number is if it's not 33.

Maybe the school sent in the wrong data. If they donot correct the situation I would go to another school and let this board know what school caused this problem. My .02.

Waitaminnit... I thought your situation was resolved to your satisfaction. So you're still losing your carry permit?

I explained on the other thread. I called and they said my permit was still good. Then two days after it was dismissed with prejudice I got the revoked letter. I called and they said my permit was invalid the day I had the ex parte order signed by the commisioner. It's the government and apparently I have to follow their steps. :D
