Google is the parent company to YouTube. I wonder if this will affect gun and shooting vids in the future?

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Just downloaded bing. Seems just fine for my needs. Going to have to find something to replace YouTube now.

Eh. No surprise. They're a left coast tech company. I doubt they'll lose sleep over any lost traffic.

Obama probably won't lose any sleep because I don't vote for him. Piss on Google.

For me and many of you, it will be easy to find another search engine to use.

But as far as finding a replacement Youtube....I don't think there's any out there. There is Vimeo, but that has a much smaller audience and is more focused on higher end films....

Gut instinct says (hopes) that this doesn't mean no more gun or shooting videos on Youtube, but you know how life goes, always remember that it will surprise you. I would hate to lose my shooting videos on Youtube...they make up the majority of the channels I subscribe to.

Al Gore is listed as Senior Adviser to Google. Kind of says it all.

He's also on the board at Apple.

I switched to Bing quite a while ago. Google was getting too far out in left field for me, even then.

Problem with Bing lately, is all the crap they stick at the bottom of the homepage.

Hopefully, Google will die on the vine.

IT IS OFFICIAL..WE JUST RECEIVED NOTICE FROM GOOGLE...THEY WILL NO LONGER ALLOW GOOGLE SHOPPING (PRODUCT SEARCH) TO CONTAIN GUNS, WEAPONS OF ANY TYPE OR ANY RELATED PRODUCTS.

GOOGLE POLICY CHANGE NOTICE:(PER GOOGLE)

Based on a review of the products you're currently submitting, it appears that some of the content in your Merchant Center account, D and T ARMS, will be affected by these policy changes. In particular we found that your products may violate the following policies:

Weapons

When we make this change, Google will disapprove all of the products identified as being in violation of policies. We ask that you make any necessary changes to your feeds and/or site to comply, so that your products can continue to appear on Google Shopping.

Weapons

As highlighted on our new policy page, in order to comply with the Google Shopping policies you need to comply first with the AdWords policies. We do not allow the promotion or sale of weapons and any related products such as ammunitions or accessory kits on Google Shopping. In order to comply with our new policies, please remove any weapon-related products from your data feed and then re-submit your feed in the Merchant Center.

So basically.... Google is not allowing any business that sells anything dealing with firearms, ammo, knives, reloading supplies, etc.on Google shopping or to advertise on Google.

I can't find original notices either, but simple searches with Google Shopping shows that it's real:

Ruger LCP Google Shopping:

https://www.google.c...iw=1637&bih=825

Ruger LCP Bing Shopping:

http://www.bing.com/...ORM=HDRSC6#x0y0

Glock 19 Google Shopping:

https://www.google.c...iw=1637&bih=825

Glock 19 Bing Shopping:

https://www.google.c...iw=1637&bih=825

Wolf 9mm ammo, Google:

https://www.google.c...iw=1637&bih=825

Wolf 9mm ammo, Bing:

http://www.bing.com/...mmo&FORM=HDRSC6

Ad infinitum ... try it yourself... most all gun/ammo searches bring up nada on Google Shopping.

Knives seem to be unaffected so far, though.

If they can do this one thing, they can do everything anti-gun.

It's amazing what we let commerce get away with; if government did this there would be a revolution. Well, government DID do this and there was a Revolution, in the 1770's. Don't know about now.

Am I missing something? I see guns and ammo under each of the Google results.

people, the only way to make this crap stop is to stop using the products. I am guilty because I was an early google adopter so it is ingrained in me to use google but i a to the point that I will start going other places.. these big companies will not miss you but the smaller companies will appreciate your business

I would drop google chrome, but Firefox does not work well on my internet, and explorer is just what it is...

From my links?

You should see

"Your search - wolf 9mm ammo - did not match any shopping results"

and similar

Yes, I am using your links. I just checked them again, and I see LCPs, Glocks and Wolf 9mm under the appropriate links.

Edit: I get the same results when I do the Google searches myself. Everything is showing up here.

You're clicking the Google ones, not the Bing ones, right?

You're using the Shopping function, not general Google search, right?

If so, I can't explain your experience, 'cause Google Shopping search is definitely censored. Same links opened in IE show same 0 results.

Hi Reservoir Dog

For years I've had google pegged as "most likely corporation to become big brother". Ain't claiming that the hunch has any basis in reality. I have lots of goofy beliefs.

I get inconsistent results with the shopping test. I don't have ANY search engine specified as default in internet explorer, which is a task in itself because IE is bound and determined that you shall have some kind of default search engine. Most of the advanced features are disabled in IE and it runs full-time in privacy mode. Automatically rejects third-party cookies. Never saves history or passwords, etc. Just saying, maybe the result of my test would be different with different settings.

* For instance if I open a new browser tab in google-- Type in "ruger lcp", then tap the enter key-- I get the search results and the "Web" tab is by default hilited on the left side of the window-- Then if I click the "Shopping" tab on the left of the window, it returns a valid list of shopping results.

* Now close the google tab and open another new google browser tab.

* With slightly different procedure it fails to return shopping results-- Transpose one step-- Type in "ruger lcp" but don't tap the enter key-- Click on the "shopping" tab at the left of the window-- Now tap the enter key. In that case google repies--

Your search - ruger lcp - did not match any shopping results.

Suggestions:

  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
  • Try different keywords.
  • Try more general keywords.
  • Try fewer keywords

One possible explanation-- Google is now programmed to reject weapon shopping results but there are remaining bugs which sometimes allow weapons shopping results to be erroneously returned. If that is the explanation then the bug will be fixed soon enough.

Yes, to both questions.

* For instance if I open a new browser tab in google-- Type in "ruger lcp", then tap the enter key-- I get the search results and the "Web" tab is by default hilited on the left side of the window-- Then if I click the "Shopping" tab on the left of the window, it returns a valid list of shopping results.

I tried it both ways, and still get all the search results.

However, this is weird; I get all the results using Firefox, but get no results using IE or Safari. I cleared my cache and history in Firefox, but I still get everything. Odd.

i signed the petition. not sure if it will help at all but same goes for most anything else i have gotten away from for political affiliations.

This is from an email we received from Google.

We put our online inventory on google shopping, but will not be allowed anymore as of 1 July according to them.

We spoke with Google reps on the phone to verify this policy change and there is no way around it.

I wouldn't put it out there if it wasn't true. Especially something that affects my business they way this does.

I'm still using a positively ancient Palm winmobile 5.1 phone. It has a smallish screen but an excellent keyboard I can type with fat fingers and type by feel without making too many errors. In addition to phone calls I keep appointments, contact lists and countless to-do lists on the thing. Been shopping for a replacement for a couple of years but I really don't need to play angry birds and whatever phone I get has GOT to have a usable real physical keyboard. Some of the newer phones with keyboards have big keys but the keys are flat and easier to make a mistake than my tiny keyboard with raised rounded keys.

So anyway finally decided it makes no sense to get another phone until this one finally bites the dust. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to get another winmobile phone, especially because it might be quite a chore to convert all the data in my current winmobile phone into an iphone or android.
