More and more this seems to be a rant on the veracity of the Obama Administration and less about killing self proclaimed terrorists. You don't trust the US Gov't? Fine, don't take their word that these guys were terrorists. How do you deny news organizations across the world and the terrorists own words and actions? I'm don't understand the disconnect. Did you want Alwaki to run an ad during American Idol? Bomb your local mall?

3 attacks (not sure where you're getting that number)? Or 3 that we know of? Maybe 3 successfully attempted? Regardless, it was 3 too damn many. Another thing, you're forgetting the USS Cole while they were in a Yemeni port back in 2000. Was that an unsuccessful attack because it only killed 17 sailors and maimed others?

You reap what you sow. If you're a member of an identified Terrorist organization that operates against the United States or her interests, no matter where you are or what you're doing, you can expect a Hellfire or JDAM through your window.

It's not limited to just the Obama administration, although this administration has been much more blatant about violating the constitution...

As for AQAP, the three attempted attacks I was referencing were the Christmas Day underwear attack, the Fedex Printer attack, and the attempted new underwear bombing a couple of months back (the one mentioned in the leak probe currently ongoing).

First, Al-Qaeda is a different group of people thank Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula... While they have similar sounding names, the leadership is different, and the goals are slightly different. AQAP didn't exist and wasn't involved in the 9/11 or Cole attacks, that was Al Qaeda. AQAP primarily had been targeting Saudi interests in the area, it wasn't until the US started targeting AQAP with drone strikes in Yemen did they start to make efforts to attack the US mainland or US forces in the region.

Does that make the current efforts any less evil? No. But, it's important to know there is a clear difference between the two groups... There were even members of AQAP that may have been on the US payroll after 9/11 helping stamp out terrorists here in the United States including Alwaki.

It's like saying because the "Bayou Knights of the Ku Klux Klan" (based in Louisiana) attacked us, that we are free to target the "Knights of the Ku Klux Klan" (based in Arkansas) because they are similarly named, believe in similarly crazy ideas, and come from the same general area of the country. Even though they are 2 separate groups... You can't blame one for the actions of the other.

The news organizations mostly re-print government press releases in this country... It's rare that they dig any deeper into the details unless there is a political motive to do so.. So lets focus on the real evidence... the videos where Alwaki says crazy stuff... I've watched the videos, have you? There are much to do about nothing... he promotes a crazy version of Islam, using his religious beliefs to justify jihad on the west... With some praise tossed in there for fighters who have attacked the United States and other western interests... The thing is if he had sat on his couch here in the US and said the same things, all of it would appear to have been protected speech... and frankly I didn't find this crazy logic anymore offensive that Jeremiah Wright's sermons. I've seen a lot more videos from crazy american nazi's which was just as bad as what Alwaki was calling for.... and again protected speech.

He was never charged with a crime, there wasn't even an arrest warrant out for him... he likely was guilty of something, but if he really was a regional commander in Al-Qaeda, why would we not attempt a raid similar to the one of Bin Laden? Who knows what treasure trove of intel was destroyed with him. At the end of the day, I'm not convinced he was an 'operational member' of AQAP, maybe someday the truth will come out, but either way, we're not at war with Yemen, AQAP had nothing to do with 9/11... and the constitution is clear, you can't execute american citizens without due process of law.

I am aware they are different organizations with similar names. I was saying that it wasn't the first time we have been struck on Yemeni soil. A terrorist group is a terrorist group is a terrorist group.....regardless of their specific name. They act against the United States, her interests, and her allies. Attempting even one attack should earn the organization and it's members a death warrant. It's a simple message - You attempt to attack America, you die.

I have seen a couple of his videos but no, I didn't watch them regularly and I don't now. Inciting followers to attack the US is the same as attacking the US. UBL didn't fly those planes himself - he directed and incited others to do so.

If the KKK was a foreign group operating in foreign lands, I guarantee they'd be collecting their due. The nutcases in America can get away with it simply because they are in America and they can hide behind the very words they are attempting to subvert. You're correct - if Alwaki had sat on his couch in America and preached his garbage, he'd be protected. But he wasn't - he was in a foreign land operating with a FTO. The 3 we are talking about weren't in America. At least 2 out of 3 had vocally reveled in declaring themselves traitors. They belonged to an organization that was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the State Department. That makes them legitimate targets - anytime, anywhere deemed appropriate.

You're willing to risk others' lives to apprehend an admitted traitor to America. I am not. I'm perfectly happy with sticking a Hellfire up his ass.

ETA: Please show me where Alwaki was on the US payroll helping stomp out domestic terrorists.

If someone held a gun to my head I could not possibly care less what "name" any of these terrorist groups are going by today nor what part of what peninsula they are on nor what their country of origin happens to be. ANYONE who supports terrorists and especially those who hang out with them where the terrorists plan and plot and train to kill innocent people is a 1000% legitimate target all day every day and twice on Sunday - what country such a person was accidentally born in doesn't change that in any way. This is a war and these people live to KILL US which means we need to KILL THEM at every possible opportunity - that's what you do when you are at war. The most basic and perhaps most important responsibility of the government is to protect the country from its enemies and Alwaki freely made himself an enemy and a legitimate target.

I'm sure you are correct; that Alwaki simply sat here in the U.S. and spouted his ideas he would probably have been watched closely but short of a further overt act, he would likely have been left alone to continue spouting his beliefs. However, that's not what he did...he didn't just sit here and spout his beliefs, he went to be with the people who plot to kill us - once he did that he became as much a legitimate target as any other terrorist from any other country of and I for one am glad he's taking a permanent dirt nap.

I would submit that there is a significant difference between Alwaki and Wright; one is that Jeremiah Wright hasn't, at lest as far as I know, supported the killing of innocent people en mass; more importantly, Wright hasn't gone to live with terrorists who are plotting to kill innocent people - should he ever do than then I hope the U.S. Government takes him out too because that's what you do to traitors and terrorists.

Katrina aftermath ring a bell?

The gun seizures during Katrina are always brought up in these discussions. It was an isolated incident in an area where all infrastructure and communications was destroyed on a scale not seen before. Good things came from those incidents. Many states, Tennessee included, made specific laws making it clear that the seizures of firearms during disasters is illegal. Laws also came about that allows the price of certain items to be frozen because of the criminal gas stations owners that were charging over $10 a gallon for gas.

Katrina should be brought up at these times. It should have never happened but mark my words, it will happen again. Laws apply to us,not the enforcers.
