If you've ever dealt with OSHA, this really isn't surprising.

Posted

Back in 1999-2000 we had to switch to Bose intercom systems inside our tanks because of OSHA, and those things worked really, really well. They worked so well that it was nearly to the point you could hear someone whisper across the radio.

It is obvious this issue is not about hearing protection.

The EPA tried to shut them down over lead issues. But it didn’t work (yet). So now OSHA is saying “Hold my beer and watch this.â€

The EPA and OSHA have done more to run business out of this country than unions could ever do.

Obama might not be able to get guns banned, but he sure can make life tough (and expensive) for those in the industry.

agreed - OSHA and EPA should be working with small biz not attacking at slamming with fines, its a war on US biz IMO

and we loose no matter what.....but think about this....with 75% of MFG now on foreign soil with no regulations, just think how

much more polluted our planet is now by these MFGs in china are not even trying to be clean.......

I have a buddy that MFGs in China and he would love to come back here and make his products in MS again

but cost aside he said its just plain not feasible anymore, our regulation nation wont allow for him to come back

As for guns being banned.....buy em now ! cause if he is re elected (and I think he will be by a landslide)

he WILL ban some stuff - im guessing semi autos rifles and shottys

oh.........my workers comp went up 3000 (50%)bucks for 2013

and I have never had a claim ,I(my trade) have been re categorized by the WC Nazis

I hear ya man. As the jobs leave, companies like yours and the one where I work are left to take up the slack. OSHA, EPA, Health care, 401K’s, and WC costs are all built into the cost of the product. We are then expected to compete with foreign manufactures that don’t have those costs.

It’s easy for the American consumer to say we have to be able to compete on price, and then justify buying their foreign products by blaming the unions. I don’t work in a Union shop, are you union?

Guns? Some are more than willing to spend $600 on a POS 1911 made in the Philippines by a company that doesn’t have the manufacturing cost of doing business here, and then tout is as being as good as a quality 1911 made here… “For the money†they say. Does it compare to a Kimber, Smith & Wesson or Ruger? Of course it doesn’t; but it’s cheaper.

Remember when the HS2000 was a cheap POS with all kinds of problems? Along comes Springfield Armory, who decides to import it from Croatia, throw a new name on it (XD), stamp “Springfield Armory Geneseo, IL†on it and all of sudden they have them a “Springfieldâ€.

Smith & Wesson came into this market and is taking it away from Glock with an all American made gun of better quality while holding a price point. We need to support these American guns companies.

EDIT:

Oh and by the way…. The IT and computer geeks use to always tell me how this was a good thing; competition, bla, bla bla. Their industry was booming. Well ya know what…. You can buy IT and programmers for a dime a dozen now. The U.S. has allowed India to send their people here to take those jobs. But try to hire a skilled machinist.

My Comcast bill is $230 a month. I was having trouble with a bad HD box; the office was closed over the weekend so I couldn’t go swap it out. I had to deal with tech support that was in India and didn’t know chit. After a couple of time consuming worthless calls, I asked them what country they were in. She told me “Southeast Asiaâ€. India is not in Southeast Asia. It’s pretty bad when your support is so lousy you have to lie about where you are. I would love to dump Comcast but they have a monopoly because they are protected by the government.

Geez Dave! Ask Tim Calhoun about my POS 1911 made in the Phillipines. I'm not going to limit my purchases to American made weapons.

You need to slap that Chinese keyboard for being extra crabby today :pleased:

Mike, I’m not being crabby, Just addressing the problem. Well, okay I’m a little crabby over the Comcast issue….

I know my keyboard was made in China, but the best things in life don’t have to be Guns, Cars, Motorcycles, and liquor can still be bought American Made.

Other than that how’s your day going? biggrin.gif

My day is fine. I had to go buy a couch and loveseat so the girl would quit bitchin'. Needless to say, there won't be any bitchin' about my new Blackout build either. :pleased:

I hear what you're saying about buying American. I have owned a bunch of S&W in my life, and have no bones to pick with those folks. With that said, I love my Brownings, and there is no US made version. I love my Glocks too. I'm all about loyalty, but won't insist on buying Amercan at the expense of getting what I want for the money.

Yep M&Ps are great guns, but I think they are missing on some sales by not having one comparable in size to the G19. If they did I'd be all over that like white on rice and I'd bet lots of other people would too. The G19 is probably the perfect size for carry considering the enormous number of people who carry it and the 23. So I'll be going elsewhere for my carry guns and that means something foreign. I'm not going to get something I don't want just to buy American. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry but for some of us lower income brackets the only way we can afford to have a 1911 is to own a imported POS that only shoots as accurate as the man pulling the trigger. I would dare to say I can't afford a $1200 base model then spend $200 more for decent sights. About 1000 rnds down the pipe and no problems yet. By the way I love my XD too.

Just another day in America under oppressive and unnecessary government regulations...

They are necessary. If it wasn’t for the EPA thousands of people would be dead. Same with OSHA and deaths from industrial accidents.

I’m not saying we should do away with these laws. I’m saying a U.S. company can’t compete on price with countries that don’t have these very real costs. So to either keep or bring manufacturing back here there are only two choices; the consumer has to support companies that don’t destroy the earth and try to maintain a safe working environment for their employees, or have the government pay the costs of these protections (higher taxes for you).

But either way every financial “expert†out there has said our economy can’t recover until our manufacturing base recovers. More and more Americans are realizing that every day. Will the change come fast enough to keep our economy from collapsing? It doesn’t look good.

When the EPA, OHSA and the other alphabet soups were created, the intentions were admirable. Same thing with the unions.

Think about the number of coal miners alive today due to OSHA regulations. The number of people who didn't die in plane crashes due to the FAA and NTSB just to cite a few.

Unions were a working mans best friend when we were the worlds creditor and the worlds leading manufacturer. Times have changed in this new world economy and the bottom line is the profit and growth if a company is to survive. The unions have greatly enhanced the blue collar wage, working conditions and benefits. IMO, if we are to again compete for jobs and manufacturing in a world based economy, we would need to revert back to the primitive working conditions and wages that are now paid to the third world country's now doing our old jobs. The question seems to be; do we want clean air, clean water, safe food, red tape, regulations and government bureaucracy, or a low paying no benefits job?

However, history shows whenever such organizations form due to their independent swath of territory to protect, and accountable to few, sooner or later it all becomes about power and/or money.

I would say greed, profit margin and power pretty much sums it up?

I haven't heard of too many companies going into business just to create jobs for Americans. And how many people do you think run for public office because they don't want to participate in the plunder?

These days one of the best paying employment opportunities and openings is, "a lobbyist". I hear tell they out number all of Congress 2-3-4 to one.

Just like Visine, I got the rant out
