Thumb print required for TICS?

Recommended Posts

I don't recall ever using my thumb print as part of TICS. I don't know why but this morning I was reading a stores Policy on purchasing firearms and I came across the part about the price of TICS. "There is no waiting period in Tennessee, but there is a background check which involves your filling out a form and having your thumbprints taken. The cost for this service is a non-refundable $10.00 per transaction. A photo ID with your current address is required" What the heck is this thumb print business? http://www.davespawnshop.com/policies.html

that is good to hear. I just stumbled on to out of date info. That is quite normal on the internet in places.

Thumb prints were required up til maybe 3-4 yrs or so ago. I thought it was the craziest thing ever the first time I had to do it when I moved here. Like they're going to catch criminals based on silly thumb prints.

Well... when I worked at one of our local shops, it was always the guy that ROLLED his thumb for the print instead of just mashing it flat that got denied on the TICS. (Obvious previous experience being thumbprinted, lol.) It was a dead giveaway...

???

The thumbprints weren't transmitted, just kept on file with the 4473. It wasn't even a federal thing, just TN thing.

I think he was saying that if he witnessed a fellow rolling the print, it was a good predictor of a denial after sending in the data (sans fingerprint).

I lived many years in Los Angeles county where you have to be finger printed for AMMO transactions. Rolled my thumb everytime I could get away with it. Every once in awhile a clerk would have me redo it but not often.

My plans for said ammo was never more nefarious than going out to the desert and shooting a few bottles and what not, I just liked the idea of throwing a monkey wrench in the anti's plan.

Not that it mattered considering they take your info off your drivers license anyway.
