Question about Uzi Eagle

Ran across a .40 S&W version ofone of these the other day in a pawn shop. Given the name "Uzi Eagle", my guess is this is one of the Mossberg imports, or early Magnum Research. The muzzle shows a little holster wear, but cosmetically it looks pretty good, everything seems nice and tight, seems functional. Unfortunately, the price was $499. I know, it's a pawn shop, and probably somewhat negotiable, but does that seem a bit pricey to anybody else, given that a brand new one can be had for $40-$50 dollars more? Is there something about the older ones that make them more desirable than the current model?

What am I missing?

That is the exact same thing as a Magnum Research Baby Eagle, IMI, Jericho, whatever. That price is kinda steep, I guess "UZI" costs extra.

Regardless, they are might fine, extremely accurate pistols.

Depends on the importer. I think Uzi Eagles are Mossberg, They came after the Jericho, which was KBI. Magnum Research (and now Kahr/Magnum Research) called them Baby Desert Eagles. I am not certain about the pedigree or the order them came in, I know Charles Daly imported them for a while as well.

Is the safety frame mounted or slide mounted?

The frame mounted ones are a little more popular.

Then there is also the fact that since it is an 'Uzi' Eagle it is banned by name in several places.

If it were a KBI Import Jericho 941 with the kit, I would be all over it like white on rice. However, as it is 'just' a .40S&W there isn't really anything special about it.

I just bought a brand new Magnum Research/Kahr imported Baby Eagle for $530. Buds has all flavors of them at that price as well. If you could jew them down to $400ish, it would be worthwhile.

Hehe, I made a pun on an Israeli pistol...

Yeah all this is pretty much what I thought. I've been looking at them on Buds for a while. When I saw that one in the pawn shop I got really excited until I saw the price tag.

Is the safety frame mounted or slide mounted?

I didn't look at it that closely after the sticker shock. I will say it is NOT the version with "UZI EAGLE" in huge white letters on the slide. I don't like those anyway.

Oh well, they have had it for a few months now, so I may go back and dicker with them a little. I've got a couple of things they may actually want to trade for that they could move more easily, like a couple of fairly nice bass guitars I wouldn't mind letting go. I suspect a Fender Jazz would stand out amongst all the Walmart specials they have hanging on the wall, and they could get their money out of it quicker than they can this gun.
