CLEO Signature issue

How much was your trust again?

More importantly did the lawyer look at what I sent you?

It might be worth it just to avoid the death hassle transfer.

Hey Gordon,

After talking with my wife I ended up going with Chip Cain from here on the forum. The process was really painless and was done in just a few days.

Part of it was dealing with the CLEO signature, fingerprints, etc. I live about as far away from the Sheriff's office as you can and by the time you deal with parking, waiting, etc I've burned a half day every time I want to do this.

Also I added my wife as a trustee and was able to put my kids in as beneficiaries.

Finally the one and done appeal- do this right one time and be able to use it for an indefinite amount of items.

I just heard today that the ATF has unofficially announced that they will be dropping the requirement for CLEO sign off on class III items. No word yet on when the change will take effect, but this is good news I'd thought I'd share.

This is a BS rumor or at least it was a little over month ago.

I will make another call but I am almost positive this is BS just like it was a few months back.

Not saying you are full of it, just saying your source is likely hearing a BS rumor from a few months ago.

Another rumor is the ATF is considering dropping suppressors off the NFA registry because of pressure of some major manufacturers. Now that I would really to see because the cost of suppressors would drop. It would also allow people like me to make them without the additional cost of doing so.

Yeah, I am checking with my friend at the shop who told me what his source is for this information. I may have just fallen for bs. Can't blame me too much wanting to believe it.

I speak to a person HIGH within the ATF regularly about rumors and other questions. We aren't friends or anything but I can grab his ear on subjects, especially those that don't pass the sniff test.

This same rumor came up in another thread a few months ago so I called the ATF and got it straight from the horses mouth. It is pure rumor.

The rumor was started by a group. They had discussed and were going to request it but as of February it was pure rumor. It hasn't even been sent as a formal request, only discussions among group members.

I need to call about the suppressor thing anyways so if I do call I will ask about the CLEO even though I know it is BS.

I don’t think manufacturers will have anything to do with it; the ones making them now don’t want to see the restrictions removed. I think they are looking at dropping suppressors because they can see a showdown coming with those states that have passed “Firearm Freedom†acts. They know they can’t win “ATF vs. State Rightsâ€. But right now would be a great time to have that showdown.

I don’t really need a suppressor, so the ridiculous costs keep me from playing with them. If the federal requirements are ever removed; the prices will drop like a rock to where they should be.

You already have the right to make them. The Tennessee legislature passed legislation that specifically allows you to do that. Of course the ATF has told the state of Tennessee and other states to go pound sand, and they will put you in prison if you try it. :)

There is a video on Silencerco's Facebook page talking about the CLEO requirement and some other stuff. Where THEY got the info, I don't know.

Wishful thinking. I know I would trust a department head at the ATF over anybody outside the ATF.

But to satisfy everybody's curiosity I will make a call today and ask.

Even if everything they are asking for happens it will not change the an individual files a Form 1 or 4.

I loved the stylized 7 minute movie.

I like what they are trying to do but do you believe we have a snowballs chance in hell of changing anything? Especially in our current political climate.

We have bigger fish to fry, our economy is the worst it has been EVER. Streamlining the NFA process isn't going to change that so our representatives are going to act interested and make false promises but in the end the ATF will continue to be overworked as our wait times grow from months to years.
