I just read the review of the reissued 586 blue in 357. I am thinking I need one for sure and was wondering if anyone had picked one up yet?

They are great guns, but I don’t know why anyone would want to pay $700-$800 for a copy of the original, with a lock, when the original pre-locks are still available for $500. The reissues won’t be collector guns.

I'm with Dave on this one, there are a lot of used 686 and 586 revolvers to be found on the market w/o the key lock and with a proven history. While there are some S&W revolver's that I would consider buying new the K and L frame model's are not amoung them.

I can find the 686s but not the 586 and I am looking for the blued one. I found a 686 on armslist. for 550 so you are spot on for the price.

I’ve seen a few of them recently. Of course you never see what you want when you want it (at least I don’t). Post a WTB ad (They are free) and see what shows up.

I agree with the other posters here. Why spend the $ on a new piece of junk with the MIM parts and useless internal lock, when an original, quality piece can be had for less money?

I can see the 586 being a bit harder to find than the 686 but there were still a lot of them produced so one might turn up for you. The bottom line though is how bad you want it and how long can you wait for one. That's the kicker in gun buying, the want's almost alway's over rule the need's. :-).

As an aside though as much as I love older S&W wheel gun's and blued gun's more than stainless one's I've a suggestion for you. Take a really close look at a blued GP100 with and without a Wolff Spring Kit installed. A fixed sight 3" barrel model is on my short list now after doing the same.
