Whatd you get for Father's Day?

Recommended Posts

I guess you got the garage cleaned out. I didn't see much room for that when I was there. :D

Getting cleared out! Though there was room for the table-saw.

Expecting to have the mother of all garage sales in the near future. Need the room for a to-be-built 16 ft. Redmond Whisp Sharpie Skiff.

We have an African Grey. He talks...a lot. When I come home, he greets me and asks "did you miss me". When I leave he says "goodbye, see you later". When he's ready to go to bed, he says he's "ready to go to bed". When I cover his "house" he says "goodnight, sweet dreams, see you in the morning" and follow that with an "I love you". When he misbehaves and I give him "the look", he'll say "Stanley's (his name) a good boy". When someone visits, he says "hello my friend". If the dog's bark, he barks. If one of the dogs whine, he'll ask them if they're ok. If you sneeze, he'll bless you. He calls the dogs by name and asks them to bring toys, they bring toys. If they go to the door, he asks if they need to go out. When I head off to bed at night, even though he's covered in his house, he says good night to me. When I head down the hall toward the living room first thing in the morning, he says good morning. And the list goes on.

He's only 4 years old and started talking when he was almost one. He's learning more all the time. He's truly amazing. He's talking to the dogs now as I write this. My wife works nights and is still sleeping so he's asking the dogs "where's your mama?". He knows no bad language because he doesn't hear any. I've had people ask me why he doesn't cuss. I just tell them he has a better command of the English language then most people I know and can communicate well without those words. Treat your Grey as part of the family and include him and he will be part of the family. My biggest concern for mine is that I know he'll outlive my wife and me and I worry about what will happen to him when we're gone. They need lots of attention and love.

I'm sure you're going to enjoy the new addition to the family.

For me, I got a 22 acre farm for Father's Day. I close on the 29th. The house on it needs to be torn down but I'm not planning to live there. It's got lots of oak and hardwoods. I'll be looking for a logger to thin it out a bit and maybe get a little return on my investment. It's going to be my weekend getaway (and range). Only twenty minutes from the house. I couldn't ask for anything better than that.

Happy Father's Day all!

That sounds awesome!

I may contact you in the future for advice for "Captain Jack", (my African Grey's name) if you don't mind, and hopefully he will be a talker like Stanley that is exactly what I want and I already have it planned out that my Grand daughter will take him after the Wife and myself pass as I know he should outlive us both

Well since you asked,

I am offshore now but after I get home I will be going to the airport to pick up my fathers day gift. I have wanted a parrot for the last 12 years or so, my wife bought me a baby Congo African Grey parrot from The Emerald Forrest bird gardens, I am very excited about it

We have two. One of them belches, farts and throws the occasional swear word. Can't figure where she picked it up.

My daughter & twin Grandboys (8 yrs) got me homemade cards, store bought cards, & an EZ EYES keyboard

for the PC. Thing's bright yellow. Easy to find, as well. LOL

The boys shot the BB a bit & tossed the nerf football, watched the squirrels in the back yard. Fun!

I had the perfect day. I started it off with a visit to my favorite restaurant, Waffle House, with my wife and son. Then he and I spent the day kayaking the Ocoee River. Came home to a fantastic meal prepared by my other son's wife. Finished off the evening with a beer near the pool watching the grandkids swim.

Doesn't get any better than that!

Technically I am no daddy, just the father figure of my girlfriend's kid who is turning 4 this September. We have been together for over 2 years so that is a significant part of his life. They each got me cards which is more than I could have asked for. It made my evening.

The bill...I like that! I chose where I wanted to eat and pay, YoLo's afterward, but it was time with the family. They made me a sign that morning.

My 4 year old painted me a rock, gold, with some scribble marks on it, it is a weather rock:

If it is warm/cold and dry it is sunny

If it is dark/dim and wet it is raining

If it has white stuff on it, it is snowing

If it is moving it is windy

If it is gone, somebody stole it.....I kid you not.

I laughed at that.

The movie Grand Torino on DVD and spent the day with my daughter, a good friend, and his son at the range shooting.

It was a great day!!

You left out good food and beverage. Pretty sure the guys there never saw someone shoot clays w/ a Saiga shotgun!

I got a set of playing cards and on the back of each card my daughter wrote all the different reasons why she loved me. My youngest made me a card. Best Fathers Day to date.

MY 5 year old hand painted a coffee mug for me...all kinds of cool designs and colors on it. she signed her name on it and wrote "i love you daddy"

pretty flipping awesome present if you as me....she said, "i heard you didnt have your own cup for work dad so i made this one for you. now you can think about me all day while you drink your coffee!"

then my 9 month old gave me TWO ... i repeat TWO napping sessions with her throughout the day!!! wife didnt say a word or make me get up either! 20 min for the first one and 35 min on the second one!!!

then my wife gave me an early present...about 3 weeks ago when SOG had them on sale...a 1932 Izzy 91/30 ...

still, the mug and the naps made it the best fathers day to date
