I've done 30 ft into the ocean from a hovering helicopter at night. That was......interesting. I've also done 87 feet, feet first into the ocean off a bridge in Japan. I can't wait to start the Pararescue pipeline and go to the static line and HALO/HAHO schools

Pretty cool. Of course, I've jumped out of perfectly good airplanes over fifty times now, so I'm a little wrong in the head. :)

If it's not burning, I'm not jumping!

As a retired aircraft mechanic, I can tell you there's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. Of course, I'm a little wrong in my head, too.

I bet there's some serious G force involved. All joking aside, It may be something pretty cool for base jumpers. Most of them have to trespass to get their kicks.

I calculate 1.5 to 2 second maximum window for any error on deploying the chute, then your dead. Better have your hand duct-taped to that release to pop at apogee.

No joke.

I think that's the deal with base jumping in general. At least you have an apogee. Think about jumping from a 1200' guyed radio tower.

I know what you mean by that. I spent the last 5 years working on CH-46 Helicopters in the Marines. If its not low power, leaking oil, fuel, or hydraulic fluid, vibrating out of limits, or sending of random warning lights, then you better put your head between your legs, because its about to crash.
