Compound bow draw and arrow length

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have never messed with a compound bow but I took one in on trade and I am going to order some arrows for it....the arrows I am looking at have inserts nocks and vanes installed...carbon shafts and are 30" in total length...would that be appropriate for a 65 lb pull bow with a 29" draw? Also I assume these should be ready to accept either broadheads or practice tips in that form. Any input appreciated. Am I considering all factors for a novice?

average draw length is 27-29". I have long arms and mine is 29".

I strongly suggest you go to an archery shop and get fitted and the bow set up correctly. IF you can. Some bows you can change the modules in the cams some you have to change the whole cam. If it's an older bow you may be screwed unless you can find the cam or module on ebay or an archery forum.

With a properly fitted bow you will shoot more accurately and more comfortably. Trust me. I have been shooting archery for a few years.

If you take it to an archery shop, they can use a measuring arrow to determine the propper length. You want the arrow as short as possible. At full draw, the tip of mine is at about the midpoint of my frame width. I use a drop down rest which allows for a slightly shorter arrow. You just have to watch your fingers when shooting broadheads. If they stick up too high they get sliced when you release it.

And like hornett said, you want the propper cam or cam setting for the right draw length.
