Guns and Leather in Greenbrier

Recommended Posts

Finally stopped procrastinating and went to the carry class with the wife (never carried one on me, but didn't know it was illegal to have it loaded in the glove box without a permit.. oops).

I was expecting a room full of mall ninjas and some gun crazy instructor that had never been outside of state lines and had a job as a security guard at a pizza parlor on the weekends, but the guy really knew his stuff and he had previous special ops experience and was stationed in Macedonia/Bosnia for a while (same places as I was). Granted this was stuff most of us learned as a kid growing up, he kept us from falling asleep and gave some good tips on practical use.

Think these guys were about the cheapest around, and luckily there were no asshats in the class today. Really happy with them and actually going to send the wife back there to do the level 2 at the end of the month. Also really liked their range, just wish there was one like that next door

Hopefully I won't have any "asshats" in class either. I'm taking their permit class next weekend. Heard some good things about their other classes as well, so that's gonna be next.

I had the "asshat" that made up for all of you missing out! Random question (one of many) thrown out there, "What if someone tries to jump on you when you up in the club?"

I rest my case...

ETA: Just to stay OT, the G&L class was great. Mark covered the state mandatory materials but also took the time to explain some of the real world aspects. He also used a bit of humour to keep everyone from sacking out... Can't imagine a better value out there to meet the VERY BASIC state requirements.

I had some pretty clueless people in my carry class...

One guy took his practical with a MONSTER 1911 and was shaking like a dog poopin peach pits.

I thankfully was in the third group that only consisted of two other people.

(One of which was a cute lady. ;). )

Some of them made nervous that they would be able to have a loaded firearm in public.

Not really cause they were asshats, but just lacking in the common sense department!

Some pretty silly questions in there...

Tony and Chris are great instructors, me and few of my friends were fortunate enough to do level 3 and level 4 classes there and these guys will teach you ton of good stuff. They have my full support and we will go there again, like they say there is never enough practice when you carry on a daily basis - money well spent and i recommend them to everyone who wants to get more comfortable with their guns and improve their skills.

I've been curious to know if their Level 2, 3 & 4 are taught at the indoor range or at another location with an outdoor range. I can't see doing that stuff inside with lane divisions and such but maybe that's my small thinking getting in the way.

My experience, a few years back, was very similar with G&L. Knowledgable staff. Good class, taught well, and met the State's requirements. Most of my class (60+ students) were female and senior. Price was great.

My suggestion: Use the piece you are going to carry, as this (hopefully) will be one of the few times you will ever have a little stress when shooting. (You do not pass the shooting test; you do not get the permit.) It was fun to hear the difference between my .45 and the .22's, and 380's being used. Pew pew pew, BOOM, pew pew pew, BOOM. Got 100%. You should be able to, as well.

Several students buy the gun upstairs, then come downstairs to do the test. I certainly do not recomment doing that. G&L does not either.
