I personally would have to question his motives on both sides of the argument after reading the short article. The question of motive is still up in the air. Was funding for his film "career" the basis for both?

He lost his backers AFTER he changed. Sounds to me like he saw things that raised red flags - which is surprising for a self-proclaimed liberal.
