Hi eveyone! My family and I will be finally moving to Nashville in August from Michigan. WuHoo..! Pretty psyched, excited, anxiuos etc... Anyways, I was wondering, what is the process for CPL(conceal pistol holder), CCW (conceal carry weapon) holders from another state (MICHIGAN) on getting a TN handgun permit. and what are TN laws on long gun transportation from Michigan to Nashville? greatly appreaciate the info...

Be careful goin thru Ilinois with a butterknife, not sure on long guns but you've got have your handgun unloaded & stowed away from the ammo if I remember right. Check out the handgunlaws.us for certain for any state on u route. Make sure your car ac works lol & welcome

Most LEO here in Tn. won't bother you as far as transportation of long guns as long as they are in a case (secured) and of course unloaded. Most understand you got to move from one state to the next. As long as you are not doing something stupid or causing unwanted attention, you should be fine. It doesnt hurt to sing Rockytop when coming to Tn.

Welcome to TGO, and soon to Tennessee.

First, in TN it's a Handun Carry Permit (HCP). With a permit you can carry openly or concealed. Your choice.

Second, you have 6 months from your move to get a TN HCP. Until then, your Michigan permit is valid.

Third, TN recoginizes MI's training as "good enough for us" so you only have to go through the HCP renewal process. You won't have to take the class again.

Fourth, Indiana and Kentucky also recognize Michigan's permit, so you're good to go all the way to The Promised Land. Just keep the long guns unloaded and secured. I don't know if you had to register your guns in Michigan, but we don't do that here.
