I just got issued mine the other day, noone cares if we use them.

Ohh sure, pass a law that makes our troops use the lowest bidder when their life is on the line.

Pissants, it's all about the money. Some sissy nanny gov contractor is crying about this, you bet.

Who makes the "official authorized" magazines? They must be losing market share and bitched a fit. Follow the money; you'll have the answer.

Being forced to accept such ignorant rules is a good reason why I'd never make it in the military. I'm not sure how our men and women do it.

It’s just a glitch in the matrix; it won’t last long.

Mom & Dad at home hasn’t weighed in yet on the Army forcing them to use an inferior product that could cost them their life.

That is stupid! They should be using MAGPUL instead of those junk mags!

GI mags are not junk mags. I have used all kinds and I prefer the aluminum mags over any of the others.

There is nothing a Magpul mag can do that a GI mag can't do. The dust covers of the Magpul mags aren't for dust, they are to keep the lips from spreading during long term storage. Not an issue with aluminum.

But have you used them in the same manner in which our soldiers do?

I'm not sure they're "junk", but I don't think metal mags can withstand the abuse quite like the PMAGs. I don't have any experience using them in a military setting, but I'm not sure I've ever heard a soldier admit to preferring GI over PMAG.

The article reads dust gets in the aluminum mags and causes failure to feed as well as they are more easily bent over the pmags. So your saying this isn't true and the aluminum mags are better?

Agreed. I've used a bunch of the milsurp mags and never had a problem.

In spec GI mags work just fine. Out of spec GI mags should be culled from supply and destroyed. It's very simple, they even make a gauge for it.

I personally use Pmags when I train, but I have a healthy supply of GI mags that work just fine.

The dist covers get lost in the first reloading of the mags. They also issue mag covers for aluminum mags but they are lost as well.

As far as the dent goes yes the aluminum mags can get dented but it takes a lot. And I suspect an impact that will dent an aluminum mag will also damage the Pmags.

Another thing is in the artic PMags become brittle. There have been a lot of reports of them cracking when dropped during a mag change.

Usually has always been more than one contractor in place at a time AFAIK. Long list of companies who make or have made "USGI" mags.

Seeing that we modify our M4s with what ever we want and we are issued Magpul mags I don't see them going away. I don't care what that article says.

On the other hand GI issued mags are great and function just as good at magpul but magpul weigh less which is why most of us carry them. Every oz. counts when your on an 8 hour patrol.

I am not saying MagPul mags are bad just saying that milspec aren't bad either. Seems everyone loves to hate them yet the milspec magazines have worked well for over 50 years.

It probably has nothing more to do with it than the fact the magaziens must meet the milspec standard. And no matter how you shake it Magpul PMags will not meet that standard, at least not until the standard is rewritten. And looking at other plastic magazine failures in the world it is unlikely at least not until an extensive amount of testing is done.

I will try to post the standard for the military magazine. I am almost positive it requires it to be metal of some sort and more than likely aluminum. I do know that it requires a certain amount of welds on the backstrap of the magazine.

Honestly. How heavily enforced do ya'll see this being? I just don't see commanding officers pushing this issue to hard. Obviously there's a line they have to draw, but this can do way more damage than good. The word is Morale. I may not have ever served as a soldier, but I do know that the little things make a BIG difference. A nudie magazine and a pack of Marlboro's aren't standard issue either but to a 19 year old young man facing death, they go a long way.

#### rolls downhill fast in the military.

Reading the article it looks like the Army isn't offering any valid explanation to the ban on PMags other than that it's not authorized according to the technical manual. It doesn't say anything about the PMags not being up to specs, how current are the technical manuals? PMags are relatively new, if those manuals haven't been updated in the last 10 years or so...

I don't know but it sounds to me like a loophole that the Army is exploiting, possibly because the manufacturer of the GI mags can't compete against the dominance of the PMags. I know these companys work hard to get these government contracts and for them a lot of money is involved. The Magpuls almost have a monolopy on the market when it comes to AR/M4 mags, if that domination is cutting into this other company's profit margin from the Army then I'm sure they're raising hell to get their mags out there instead of the Magpuls.

My opinion, for what it's worth.
