ROMNEY'S VP CHOICE?

Recommended Posts

Guest profgunner

My bet is that Romney will be very much pro-business but will be a bit left-of-center when it comes to social issues. In fact, he seems to be about as liberal as Obama when it comes to gay rights, abortion, and even the 2nd amendment. His record as Massachusetts governor suggests so to me. I am voting for him primarily because I think he can better manage the economy.

My hope is that Romney is a little more conservative on foreign policy than our last two presidents. That is one of the reasons I do not like Rubio. His foreign policy views are not conservative. We shouldn't forget that foreign policy adventurism costs money we do not have.

I like Rand Paul and Jim Demint, but neither of them are on the list.

I heard that, too, about Mark. It won't happen. I doubt Levin would be wanting that job. Besides,

his strengths are better put with SCOTUS.

That was my first thought 6.8. Generally anyone I think "hell yeah!" about doesn't make it on the ticket (or win the primary.)

Had my share of losers, too.

Levin is a good guy, no doubt.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was the clear favorite among conservative activists to be Mitt Romney’s running mate in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) vice presidential straw poll Friday.

Rubio topped the list of potential contenders with 30 percent of the vote at the one-day Chicago event, more than double his nearest competitor.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in second with 14 percent, followed by while Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with 9 percent and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) with 8 percent of the crowd. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal placed fifth.

Rubio’s straw poll win was nearly identical to the

conference poll in February, when he was also the top choice among CPAC-goers in Washington, D.C.

The poll results have no bearing on who Romney will ultimately tap, but are a clear indication of what conservatives would like to see.

Rubio has repeatedly denied having any interest in accepting the No. 2 spot.

"Rubio has repeatedly denied having any interest in accepting the No. 2 spot."

They all say that.

Really, anyone on the top tier of choices wouldn't bother me a bit. His presidency, if it happens, won't be worth a damn unless he has both

parts of Congress. At the best, he could prevent SCOTUS from going left any more, with a split Congress. He could undo a few things

with a united one.

Not necessarily. He will have the power to rescind all of Obama's execuctive orders, even though he is unlikely to do so. I am reaching on this one, but Romney may be able to work with Reid since they are both Mormons. A sort of brothers in faith if you will. Still, any compromise reached will probably suck, but it will more than likely be better than anything from our most Omniscient Beneficent Altruistic Magnanimous Auspicious dear leader.

Very good one, Mav. :D I forgot about about Executive Order. It would be difficult for him to get any

legislation through With Reid running the Senate, though.

Rice is too liberal IMO. A strong conservative VP pick sure would help the cause.

Portman may be alright? Let the vetting begin and we'll see.

Personally, Allen West would be my pick.

Allen West would be my preferred selection. He would make Bad Rug Biden look an even bigger fool than he already appears. Frankly, conservatives should not go the MOR route with the VP candidate as we already have that in Romney. West would also elminate the race card always pulled by the progressives when they have nothing of substance in terms of real argument to offer in rebuttal.

Just my $0.02.

May be down to 4?

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell may be considered wild cards, and Romney has said he’s thoroughly vetting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, though the first-term lawmaker’s status appears unchanged.

First I've read about Sen. Kelly Ayotte....?

Out of those 4, I would think he's leaning to Jindal since Romney would need a southerner candidate, and the south vote to win the presidency. I like Jindal and I believe he would make a great VP, and President. But he may take Portman because winning Ohio is a crucial swing state.

I hope Romney is not that stupid to pick Condi as his running mate. Even though I can't stand McCain, he was smart enough to pick someone a lot more conservative than himself.

1. she is not a conservative (she is more to the left than Colin Powell)

2. her foreign policy views suck

3. she more than likely voted for Obama (that is reason enough not to support her)

4. etc...

If Romney picks her, I will be voting for Johnson and have absolutely no regrets.

Not quite true. A lot of pundits trash her, but I

don't guess I get my news from the same place as you.

Sarah is playing a pivotal role in this election already

and she doesn't care about the media. I'd take her as

a VP or President any time. She saw her own shelf life

because of the media bashing and took herself out

of any contention.

What's funny is yesterday before the Condi news was announced a Romney donation solicitor called me. I told her I wasn't donating until I find out who his VP was going to be. She said it's between two people, Condi and Rubio. :o

I told her if it was in fact going to be Rubio, or Paul Ryan or my first choice Allen West, I'll be sending in a check.

When this news broke I laughed. Obviously she knew it was going to be announced. Apparently this speech Condi made really impressed Mitt.

You all act as if you actually have a choice in the matter. Whether we like it or not...this is a game called Politics and in that game...Condi would be far enough left to get support from the liberal left. We need the votes of women, blacks, and hispanics; she gets some of each and her foreign policy is 100x stronger than Romney's. He needs someone like her to add some juice to his campaign. We can focus on a Conservative revolution in a few years but right now we just need to get the White House back - Romney/Rice 2012 could do that.
