I am thinking on buying a H&K usp 9mm my friend has. It us an older H&K but is in great shape. Around 500-750 rounds down the pipe. Does anyone have any experience with these? Any issues? Any models to stay away from?

I briefly had a USP 9mm, but didn't have much experience with it. I have a LOT of experience with the USP 45 and the USP Compact 9, and love both pistols. The big USP 45 is my favorite handgun of all that I have ever owned. It is a great shooter, eats anything I feed it, and just points extremely well in my hand.

A note: the rails on USP's are not picatinny which, depending on what you want to attach, may require an adapter. I have one of the Mk 2 USP lights on mine, which was made for it and so fits perfectly.

Take note of which varient it is. Most are the standard (variant 1) right-hand models that are SA/DA with decocker on the gun's left side for your right thumb. They can be carried cocked and locked. Some have it on the other side, some are DAO. I do not know how the different variants impact pricing, but the standard model I mention above is likely the most popular.

I've had 2 pass through my hands over the years. Don't get me wrong but I'm not a fan of H&K. Their weapons I've owned have been flawless in their operation but they just don't "fit" me or my hands to well. I have a few friends who swear by theirs but they've never had any issues with'em.

I'd say if the price is right, you'll be happy.

It is pretty hard to beat the HK USP platforms, IMHO. The V1 allows you several distinct carry options. If you prefer a different system, you simply change a module and/or a couple of springs.

HK is the best in my opinion. A little pricey but they always go bang. I had a USP once that would literally feed empty cases. I haven't tried it with my current carry gun which is a full sized USP 45. If you have larger hands you will like them. If you have smaller hands the HK45 might be better for you. I had one and din't like the finger groves so I went back to the USP.

If you're ever down to the Knoxville area, you're welcome to shoot mine.
