Having read the 3 pages after the intial post, I too have questions.... In the intial post, the OP asked about other classes he could take now that he has his HCP. The answers he received only left more answers in my mind? :foot:

What classes are recommended? I mean...what exactly do they teach? Are there any here in the Knoxville area? The ones mentioned already were over towards the Nashville area and I am about 2-3 hours away from there.

After reading the responses regarding Tactical Response and clicking and reading the blog posted by DMark...I think I'll pass on that one. :)

So... what are the classes about exactly and what do they teach is my main questions?

Thanks

Richard

Most local ranges (like Range USA and Rangemaster here in Memphis) offer advanced courses that teach you how to draw and fire, move and fire, hit multiple targets, shoot in low-light/no-light, shooting weak-handed, shooting while seated or prone, and even force-on-force training.

You can always take more advanced classes from larger training schools if you want, but you just have to decide what is right for you and what you want to learn.

Personally I think several of the schools and instructors on this forum are top notch and could provide you with great training.

I have taken classes at both Rangemaster and RangeUSA in Memphis- I would not hesitate to recommend either facility.

However, if you are easily offended by dramatic profanity, you might have an unpleasant experience with Tom Givens at Rangemaster. Tom is a great instructor and I am not personally offended by his language at all, having been instructed for several years in the US Army. But I think Miss Manners or Church Lady might blush a lot in Tom's classes.

LOL He is a salty old dog. I always laugh when people say "cuss like a sailor", I always go..."My Drill Sergeant wasn't a sailor" :stare:

I'm obviously a little late to this..

I'm an instructor for Tactical Response. I'm a former Army Ranger with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our other instructors include Marine Corp scout/snipers, Army Special Forces (current), Cops, Medical doctors, Executive Protection specialists, etc... You won't find better training available to civilians anywhere in the world. That's not my opinion, that's what our students from all training backgrounds tell me. If it wasn't the case, I wouldn't work here.

As for James, you'll never find a more loyal and generous person in your life. Those who criticize his actions do so without a clue about what happened or what to do in that situation. Notice that the criticism is personal against James, not against our curriculum. It's pretty laughable. Tactical Response has the most forward thinking firearms training curriculum available. As an alumni of several great schools around the country, I can assure you that nobody cares about our student's success like we do.

27 of our students have been in gunfights since attending our training. 26 won. The one guy that didn't left his gun at home contrary to what we trained him to do. There has never been a student shot at Tactical Response. How many of the "big name" schools can say that? None.

Tom Givens at Rangemaster also does good work. You'll find that each school has a different personality. For that reason, I suggest you attend several. If you have any questions feel free to email me at kylelynch@tacticalresponse.com

Heard good things about both as far as training, but not one cent of my money will ever grace the bank account of James Yeager.

I too would like to know of a good course my wife and I could take. I don't wish to become Dirty Harry, I simply wish to be more proficient with a handgun. I also don't want to listen to how intelligent and tough my instructor is. I'm just looking for a knowledgeable person to help me shoot better. Thanks.

We're not that intelligent or tough, but we are extremely good looking.:stir:

LOL Family Guy quote time...

"Did that door just open because I'm beautiful?"

"No it opened because you stepped on that black rubber square, but if that hadn't been there it would have opened anyway because you're beautiful!"

"Wow."

Yeah! That's pretty much the kind of thing I'm trying to avoid. Thanks.

My humble apologies.

Humor will be turned off, promptly. :)

Wow. Well if you don't like humor or toughness I don't know where to tell you to go. Lot of top notch instructors and schools on here and C.I.S is one of them. Be a shame to miss out on something because you can't take a joke.

Unless you were remarking on you want to avoid that actual attitude and got Todd and myself's humor and just didn't make your post clear enough...

If you want a instructor that doesn't inject humor...or a bit of their own attitude then you're SOL. buy some DVDs and watch at home.

IF you want a solid training experiance, then CIS does a GREAT job of taking classroom theroies and putting them into "real world" situation and range drills.

You can also look for NRA Personal Protection In the Home/Outside the home in your area...but the instructors are going to be...people.

I'm a certified NRA instructor, and I try to get in a CIS class when I can.

level Ii would be NICE though :-)

If you want the best...

www.prifirearmstraining.com

Check out their website. Check out the instructors. Its like Gunsite in Tennessee. PRI has their own private facility that has a 75-yard handgun range and a 600-yard rifle range. They are located in Hickman County, Tennessee, less than an hour's drive west of Nashville close to I-40.

I have taken their courses and trained with them at Gunsite and other nationally recognized schools, they are top notch. I dont work with these guys nor am I officially affiliated with them. I dont get kickbacks for referals. You asked for the best, so there you have it. You wont see/hear anything negative about them here or elsewhere.

They are the Elite Top Notch when it comes to what your asking for and beyond.
