Do you need to special order these if you have a device like a suppressor or a muzzle brake or can you get these at a hardware store? I can't imagine they are hard to make but I don't know if they have other industrial uses.

I got a muzzle brake but it didn't come with shims or washers and it's off by 45 degrees.

I always use a crush washer. If I need AR parts on Sunday, I call Outpost Armory. They probably have what you need, if you feel like driving out there.

did you buy it used? i can not think of getting one that did not come with a lock washer or shims, most use lock washers. they are cheap if you mail order the shipping cost far more than the part. that is i have several of both on hand now.

PWS wants you to use shims so i keep extra for when i decide to move my suppessor.

you will have to order them. You can always use a set from advanced armament just remember what size you need 5.56 or 7.62 etc. You will also need to use Rockset around the threads since the muzzle will get too hot to use locktite.

So you need

  • shim kit (start with the smallest, then remove and add the next size till you find ONE that works)
  • rockset (to put on the threads)

It should cost around $15 for both

Can't use a crush washer with a suppressor mount. It won't seat concentric to the bore.

It's a UAG muzzle brake. It goes on nice but tightens up 90 degrees off. I found a bunch of shims online. I'm on the road to San Antonio. I've got the gun with me and hope to find time to shoot it. I think the nature of this problem isn't fixed with generic shims so I'll have to find a gun store with them or get rush delivery. Or just wait till I get back. I'm sure my local dealer (the excellent D&T Arms) will have what I need.

Yup, use an A2 crush washer. Put a little oil on it and it will make it easier to turn, those things take a bit of torque to actually get them to 'crush'.
